Is it really bad in Oakland,CA ?

While researching news on a possible Roethlisberger to Oakland deal, I went to the Oakland Tribune to find info & the headlines were:

* 4 high students hospitalized after eating pot brownies.
* 2 men to be charged in beating death of 59 year old man!
* Oakland father of 9 shot in car jacking attempt, has died.
* School board imposes contract on teachers union so state doesnt take over school!!!

WOW. I've seen the fans at the Raiders games, but is it really this bad in Oaktown?:think2:

Oakland has some bad areas but also has some extremely expensive areas in the Oakland Hills where the fires destroyed over 3000 homes in 1987. The community is definitely one of haves and have nots. You just have to know where not to go. Just like Southern California, there are areas that just aren't safe. Stay away from those and you'll be fine. Oakland actually has some very nice areas to visit and enjoy.

Used to go into the heart of Oakland before A's games to go get some Flint Ribs.

Was a good eats but was scary the first couple few times.

was at the the county fair in vallejo years ago to play some horses at the meet they have..even they looked scared!!!

Hey, look on the bright side, Oakland has the best hospitals when it comes to treating gunshot wounds. Well then again, that pretty much goes for any city that has a hospital near a Martin Luther King Blvd. But Oakland is the best.

? u must be on some of thoose oakland drugs. chicago is a great city. Go ask 100 people if they are giving a free vacation to oakland or chicago where would they go. i can guarantee u would get atleast 90% say chicago.

Whenever pro teams are polled for what is there favorite city to go to on the road chicago wins in a landslide every time.

When he was traded to Atlanta and came back to play the Warriors he got arrested for taking a tire iron to some one in the hood.

Guess it was pay back time,that guy was a mess.
