Russell was already overweight at 290, so he's sliding in the wrong direction. We'd say his imminent release might motivate the former No. 1 overall pick to get in shape, but history has proven that won't be the case. The "move JaMarcus to right tackle" jokes are coming fast and furious now. If Russell puts on about 20 more lbs., he could play five-technique end in Oakland's new 3-4 sets.

What a terrible draft pick! They drafted him due to his "intangibles" (size and arm strength, mostly).

Jason Campbell is not as bad as he played in Washington. The Redskin OL was terrible the entire time he was there. It's hard to be an effective QB when you don't have time to find an open receiver. I don't know Oakland's OL situation, but if it's any better than Washington Campbell will be a decent QB in that system...

Gradkowski should start. The team rallies around him.

Didint he blow a knee already? Think i read he's out for good while.

and i guess im wrong.....Gradkowski had been expected to compete with Russell for the starting job before the trade for Campbell. Gradkowski hurt himself lifting weights this offseason and recently had surgery. He is expected to be fully recovered by training camp

I don't think the team rallies around Gradkowski as much as Gradkowski is just a safer QB in general. He doesn't do great things but he doesn't try to do many. He relies on the running game and makes the shorter throws he needs too. Think Trent Dilfer. I don't think Gradkowski really wins games but he's good at not losing them. JaMarcus... not so much.

NFL Network's Michael Lombardi was all over this story as soon as the Jason Campbell trade went down. Despite coach Tom Cable's protestations to the contrary, the Raiders were simply not going to risk an injury that would guarantee Russell $6.45 million more than he's already stolen. Al Davis' hand-picked No. 1 overall pick in 2007 will likely be axed before this weekend's minicamp, and he may struggle to find a second opportunity elsewhere.

Jason Campbell is not even close to being the answer. Campbell is about as slow as you get reading defense's and making the right decision as to where to throw the football.

I still can't figure out what people see in a slow stupid QB like Campbell.

Man some people just don't get it. You think he's going to get a brain and learn the game overnight?

WOW!!!

Campbell takes way too long to decide where to throw the football and always ended up throwing short almost everytime the play didn't work the way he saw it.

The reason Campbell never threw long was because his brain worked way too slow and this had nothing to do with coaching. The dude is just too slow.

Shanahan wasn't about to go into this season with this retard at QB!

Good for Campbell going to a place in which (hopefully) he can flourish. He was dealt a horrible Offensive line and was beat up on a constant basis.

As far as JR is concerned this should be an example of why there has to be a rookie salary cap. He got all of that guaranteed money and had no incentive to do better.
