I was laid off from a window manufacturer a year ago when they moved out of town. Was making 15.70 an hour running a moulder and actually liked my job. It was farely lax the people were real good to be arond, was there 21 years and expected to retire there. I recently accepted another job at a factory here in town. I have been there since January. Figured unemployment wouldnt last forever. Bad mistake its a piece rate job starting at 7.50 an hour. It is the worst job I have ever had. No way can I make any money at this. I have stood in the same spot all day and pounded my ass off and still cant make what they consider rate. The people ther suck. They just stare at you and wait till you finish a rack so they can grab it and tear their precious ticket off. I am so sick of this job I want to Quit but If I do I know they will deny me unemployment benefits even though I made 100 dollars more per week on. Thats 400 dollars more a month for unemployment. This has to be below poverety wages. I really dread getting up in the mornings anymore!!! Bill collectors are starting to call. Just dont have the monthly income to pay everything anymore. AAARRGGHH!!! Anyone relate to this? Im 47 years old this just isnt right! I made more than this 20 years ago and things were alot cheaper back then.

Yeah, there's no way you can live off of that. That's the kind of pay a teenager might expect working a summer job for extra money. Hopefully something will come around for you and everything will work out.

Good luck...

I'm sure you've thought of this, and it probably doesn't apply to your location, but one thing I tried to do was focus on menial jobs at institutions that tend to have some kind of "living wage" - colleges, universities, hospitals.

I too recently took a job that pays far less than I'm accustomed to, just so I could get back to work.

Good luck.

I am sure it is mentally extremely difficult, but if you can muster the energy, spend your evenings and free time attempting to find something else.

Best of Luck.

I see a lot of employers move to dump salary. They almost have to compete, and usually move overseas.

USA is in deepshit.

Places like schools get thousands of apps for an $15-18 hour custodian job with benies.

There isn't much of a lower middle class/ upper poor class , anymore with $20/hr jobs in factories, construction, etc.

I have applied at so many different places lately just trying to get out of there. I live in a small town 10,000 people. I would even leave to work at Mcdonalds if they would hire me. With my age I think I would have a better chance of advancement there. They even may pay more an hour than what Im making now.

Government Job? I was in the military anyone know how you can apply for a Job say at a military base? I know when I was in the service they always had civilians working in different positions on post. I would really love to drive cab on a military base. Dont know if these cab driver jobs on post who would pick you up and take you downtown were government employees or private cab companies. Anyone know? Have an excellent driving record and always wanted to drive cab somewhere.

What are you guys talkin' about? Wall Street is hummin', and the recession is all but over. The talkin' heads have been tellin' me that for weeks now. And only two new foreclosure signs came up on my block last week. How about that? Get your money from The Greek and give it to corporate America. You guys must be part of that 98% who just don't seem to get it.....you don't understand that happy days are here again. :dancefool:smoking:

If you are in a pinch, pizza delivery, especially in resort areas. Used to do it before the turn of the century. Instant cash in hand from tips. Sometimes we'd run three deliveries on one trip, when busy.
Most places pay per mile or per delivery on top of your base wage. You can at least enjoy yourself listen to tunes on the road. Can avg. $12-$15/hr.

As Doug said, that's the future of the USA. I would suggest you somehow get fired/layed off Then you would probably make more on unemployment compensation then from what you describe the wages at this job. You seem to be someone that wants to better himself. Once on unemployment you will have a better opportunity to either look for a better job or go back to school. Good luck.

I used to deliver partime for Pizza Hut. Loved the job it was like you said but I just called and Quit one day without giving notice. I went back ther a few weeks ago to ask If I could get my job back and they wouldnt do it because I Quit without notice. I had really thought I could at least get back in there. That was a real spirit breaker. There is no other place here in Mayberry that delivers. Can you believe that!!!!
