ST. LOUIS (AP)

Atlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox has an idea of how much St. Louis slugger Albert Pujols should get in his next contract: $50 million a year.
Cox saw that Philadelphia star Ryan <NOBR style="FONT-FAMILY: inherit; COLOR: darkgreen; FONT-SIZE: 100%; FONT-WEIGHT: normal" id=itxt_nobr_2_0>Howard </NOBR> got a five-year extension worth $125 million.

So on Tuesday, before the Braves played at St. Louis, Cox offered his assessment. Cox says Pujols is twice as good as any player in the majors.
Pujols is in the final year of a seven-year, $100 million contract with St. Louis. The Cardinals have a $16 million option on the three-time NL MVP for next season.

I guess I agree because Howard is no Pujlos for sure. But where does this madness stop. When was the last time on here someone got a 60% raise at work in 7 years without changing jobs?

It will only be a couple of years more of this crap and all the major sports will implode as the economy isn't getting better any time soon and paying these athletes this kind of money will bankrupt them all.

The money will soon stop coming in at these amazing amounts and the shit will hit the fan.

All these corporations have ignored the inevitable and are paying for it. One after the other. It's just taking longer for some industrys to feel the pinch.

not worth it, cause it's the fans who end up paying outrageous prices (ducats, beers, parking, etc). albert gets 50m per year, while i'm priced out of the ballpark. fuck that.

Somewhat Agree. Corporations are putting the money up for the suites/eason tix like they use to either

I really don't see where paying someone 50mil a year makes sense. I mean, come on, you could live on an 1/10th of that and be fine

Ya, his power numbers are pretty good given his health. Still, that contract is going to look really ugly towards the end.
