Tell me about Personal Seat Licenses (PSLs)

I have been a season ticket holder for the Ottawa Senators for a number of years. I've been thinking of expanding and buying season tickets for the Toronto Maple Leafs, but it appears the only way to do that is to buy a Personal Seat License, which is EXPENSIVE.

A license for 2 tickets in the Gold section for the Maple Leafs costs about $70,000 (+ the cost of tickets, fees, etc)

Meanwhile, a license for 2 similar tickets for both the Maple Leafs AND Toronto Raptors looks like it costs less than $20,000!

The only difference between these licenses appears to be that the first one you only have to buy season tickets to the Leafs, while the second one commits you to buying Leafs + Raptors season tickets.

Are Raptors season tickets that worthless, that people will pay 350% MORE to not have to purchase them? Does anyone have any experience with PSLs that could shed some light on this for me?

I don't know much as I have never held these but I think the origination of PSL's were to help pay for the construction of the stadium......pretty clever how these guys can make money...e.veyrone does it....i think ebay sells a lot of these too

Damn that sounds pretty steap for hockey I figure for another 100 you could get the team for that price.

I have 2 psl's for the Ravens.

Not sure if it works the same for hockey.

Can you tell me about them? How much did you pay? Do you renew your season tix every year? Do you go to every game or sell them?

Basically I don't like being forced into a perpetual commitment of Raptors tickets, when it looks like that's a huge moneysink. BUT if I could even break even (or lose 10-20%) on the Raptors it would still be extremely worthwhile over spending $70k on Leafs-only.

Leafs tickets sell themselves, while it appears it would be hard to even give Raptors tickets away.

ewitty, after reading your original post again, I think something doesn't make sense....one of 3 things:

1) these seats aren't as similar as you think
- maybe one has a huge obstruction
- maybe one you aren't getting ALL home games (as advertised)
- I'd read the fine print

2) Someone selling one of them is retarded in their pricing

3) Scammer alert

Anyone that buys a PSL is an idiot. Teams do this because suckers will buy the PSL's which in turn the owners will use that money to build stadiums and arenas by using your dime. Buying overpriced tickets to a sporting event is one thing. Buying a PSL is just like burning money. It makes no sense at all.

I assure you it's not a scam. http://www.etorontotickets.com/leafLicenses/

The reason is that if you buy Leafs+Raptors, you're committed to buying Raptor season tickets in perpetuity. Apparently they can be hard to unload, because NBA is not a big draw in Toronto.

If you buy just Leafs tickets, it's smooth sailing.
