DirecTV and the Yes Network are planning to televise what they say will be the first Major League Baseball games in 3-D.

The New York <NOBR style="FONT-FAMILY: inherit; COLOR: darkgreen; FONT-SIZE: 100%; FONT-WEIGHT: normal" id=itxt_nobr_1_0>Yankees </NOBR> vs. Seattle Mariners games on July 10 and 11 will be aired in New York, Connecticut, Washington, Oregon, Alaska and parts of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Montana and Idaho.

The games will air at 10 p.m. EDT on July 10 and 4 p.m. EDT on July 11 from Safeco <NOBR style="FONT-FAMILY: inherit; COLOR: darkgreen; FONT-SIZE: 100%; FONT-WEIGHT: normal" id=itxt_nobr_2_0>Field </NOBR> in Seattle.

Only viewers with 3-D TV sets will be able to watch in 3-D, but the games will be available in high-definition as well.

Yes Network is a regional sports channel that airs New York Yankees and New Jersey Nets games, college games and other programming.

I had the opportunity to be a beta tester for ESPN for some 3D programming. I was unimpressed. I really can't see people walking around a house wearing the glasses. In order to see the 3D you need to be wearing the glasses so if you have a big party to watch a game everyone needs to wear them (at $150 a pair). Also if you are expecting it to be anything like Avatar you are going to be greatly disappointed. Didn't really pop off the screen if you ask me. I think most people in the beta were completely unimpressed. There is a huge difference watching 3D on a monster screen vs a 55" set. I saw footage of football, basketball, baseball and golf. The golf was by far the best although not something that really enhanced the programming.
