NEW YORK - Officials stopped an Emirates airline plane on a taxiway Thursday at New York's JFK airport in order to determine whether a passenger aboard is on the U.S. "no fly" list.

A senior government official told NBC News that Emirates Flight 204 was destined for Dubai.

The pilots had requested permission to taxi for takeoff when Customs and Border <NOBR style="FONT-FAMILY: inherit; COLOR: darkgreen; FONT-SIZE: 100%; FONT-WEIGHT: normal" id=itxt_nobr_2_0>Protection </NOBR> blocked the plane from taxiing.

A federal official said there was a possible match between a passenger's name and a name on the no fly list.

This report will be updated as information becomes available.

I was going to say this the other Night.....Thinking after they ( Emirates ) didn't send a Red Flag when the Times square Bomber guy Paid Cash for a Last Min Ticket.
That this Airline is No Good, and will Hide terror suspects.

Why can't Homeland Security detain these people prior to boarding? That's twice in a week at JFK.

Jet briefly stopped at JFK in ‘no fly’ scare

'False alarm' reported over passenger with name similar to one on list

NEW YORK - An Emirates airline jet that was briefly detained on a taxiway Thursday at New York's JFK airport was later allowed to leave for Dubai after officials checked the name of a passenger against the U.S. "no fly" list.
The passenger's name was found to be similar to one on the list, but not an exact match, officials said, describing the security scare as a "false alarm."
The pilots had requested permission to taxi for takeoff when Customs and Border <NOBR style="FONT-FAMILY: inherit; COLOR: darkgreen; FONT-SIZE: 100%; FONT-WEIGHT: normal" id=itxt_nobr_2_0>Protection </NOBR> blocked the plane from taxiing.

The incident came days after a failed bomb attack on New York's Times <NOBR style="FONT-FAMILY: inherit; COLOR: darkgreen; FONT-SIZE: 100%; FONT-WEIGHT: normal" id=itxt_nobr_3_0>Square </NOBR> that has heightened security concerns in America's most populous city.

no fly list?

If these people are deemed so dangerous we can't risk letting them fly, why not just lock all these MFer's up?

just change the name from No Fly List to:

The Sit your ass in jail Waiting to be Convicted List.

Because they'd need to lock up all 38,532 Gary Smith's in the world, all 154,698 Joe Johnson's in the world, etc.

The no-fly list is a list of names, not a list of people. It's totally brain-dead idiotic. It's just a list of names, with no other detail (e.g. age, date of birth, country, identification #, ... nothing).

They wouldn't blow up an Emirates plane anyway.

I'd like to thank Adam, aka. Buzzkillington, for explaining my joke about the no fly list.

false, terrorists are as much against big business and princes and big money in their homelands that they feel exploit their people.

they would gladly blow up an emirates plane.
