How is Dave Winfield not mentioned?? He is the only person to be drafted in first round of 3 professional sports. MLB, NBA (and ABA) and NFL...drafted in first round of NFL without ever playing a down in college
So long as we're making shit up, Michael Jordan hit 50 homeruns in MLB and won the Master's
Dave Winfield never even played college football and was drafted well past where it would end today; he was a bench player in college basketball and again, drafted past where it would end today. Although easily one of the 10 best rightfielders in baseball history, his draft status is more a quirk of the 1970s drafting, rather than a statement of him being a good athlete
To be considered the very best athlete in the entire history of human sports, being among the absolute very best in at least one sport should be given much more credit than being mediocre at a second sport. Deion Sanders is outside of the top 20 football players in history, cannot see how a few stolen bases with the Braves and Reds move him above those 20 other NFL players like Montana. Has Melky Cabrera and Darelle Revis combined to contribute more to their teams than Peyton Manning and Albert Pujols have alone to theirs?
Micheal Jordan is a reasonable choice. I might take Wilt Chamberlain for being among the top five basketball players and he did much better at volleyball and track-and-field than Jordan did at baseball and golf. Jim Brown did even better with lacrosse and track-and-field. He might be my choice
