My Directv vs. Comcast comparison..
I have had Directv for over 4 years now. Just recently the place where I live switched from TV-max to Comcast, and I decided to try Comcast Digital Preferred package for a special price of $39.99 per month/ 1st month $25.00. I went ahead and contacted Directv and suspended my service for 2 months. This was April 1st.
Reception:
Directv: In the 4 years I have had Directv i was never out of service for more than 12 hours. The service would go out during some hard rain storms but it would restore its self quick. Sometimes under 15 min.
Comcast: After 2 weeks of Comcast the service went out for 3 days. When i called to ask what was up they acted like there was no problem in my area. They then wasted an hour of my time rebooting and re-powering their converter box....during this time I was disconnected from the service tech. When I called back they then told me that they had a service outage in my area and that they had technicians in the area working on the problem....even though it was after midnight.

Picture Clarity:
I have a Sony Projection TV
Directv: IMO on my TV the picture was always clear and crisp. The Audio was excellent. The music channels would sound great on my surround sound system
ComCast: The picture was not as crisp and some channels the color was off. Audio was not that great. The music channels were not great sounding and their selection was kinda limited....IMO

You get more channels w/ Directv....and IMO the channel line up and placement of the channels is more easy to figure out.

On-Demand Service:
Comcast: The selections of movies and shows is great....lots of stuff. But getting to the on-demand page takes 15 seconds and you cant toggle between the live channel and the on-demand channel...this drives me crazy.
Directv: They do not offer an on-demand service
Winner: Comcast
MLB Extra Innings and sports channels in general.
Comcast: They offer the same games as Directv but that's where the similarities end. The mosaic channel sucks and you cant select the game you want to watch from that channel. They don't offer a score guide like Directv.
Directv: Their MLB mix channel is great. You can toggle between the game you want to watch. Their Score guide is also a must have and is great when you just want to know the score w/ out watching the game. Their Masters and similar live pages are also cool.
Winner: Directv

You get more channels w/ Directv....and IMO the channel line up and placement of the channels is more easy to figure out.

On-Demand Service:
Comcast: The selections of movies and shows is great....lots of stuff. But getting to the on-demand page takes 15 seconds and you cant toggle between the live channel and the on-demand channel...this drives me crazy.
Directv: They do not offer an on-demand service
Winner: Comcast
MLB Extra Innings and sports channels in general.
Comcast: They offer the same games as Directv but that's where the similarities end. The mosaic channel sucks and you cant select the game you want to watch from that channel. They don't offer a score guide like Directv.
Directv: Their MLB mix channel is great. You can toggle between the game you want to watch. Their Score guide is also a must have and is great when you just want to know the score w/ out watching the game. Their Masters and similar live pages are also cool.
Winner: Directv
IMO Directv is by far better than Comcast in every category. For the price and the service I am switching back at the end of the month. Again this is just my opinion...
