So I was trying to connect the PS3 via a lynksis router that I have had working for the past year. Suddenly I can't connect to the PS3. It tells me I have DNS problems.

The PS3 acquiers the IP address and everything but then it doesn't go any further.

I tried connecting using my laptop and it shows as connected but tells me it can't detect the DNS.

So what the hell do I do here? I don't even know what a DNS is.

I had this problem. Let me check my settings. Did you change providers?

DNS = Domain Name Servers

They take an IP address and turn it into "www.amazon.com" etc.

It's probably an issue with your provider, and should be short and temporary. You could try resetting your cable modem & router if you haven't already.

That means your internet service is down...try to reboot the router first to see if it's working...if not...call your provider..

unplug the power from your wireless router.

unplug the power from your modem and let it sit for 30 secs then plug it back in.

plug the wireless router back in.

As long as he doesnt reset the router fully because then his WEP will be different along with other settings

I've done all that. I still have internet access but for some reason I can't use the router.

Maybe my provider is having problems but it's been a week already.

WEP key will never change unless you factory default the router...once you configure and save it...it will be there...

But we're talking about DNS here...DNS and WEP key are totally 2 different things...

your wireless router is not picking up the dns sent out by your internet provider.

happens to my wireless as well sometimes.

try typing 192.168.1.1 into your browser

there should be some admin settings in there that let you restart the router.

can't dig too deep into it about to head to a party.

So you can plug an ethernet cable into your cable modem to get access, but any connection through the router doesn't work? Or just the PS3 isn't working through the router?

I think he needs to go into his router and change his DNS setting

Any connection through the router is fucked.

I tried re-installing the router cd but that ain't working which I find strange. It tells me to "connect power to router" and then it just stays there for a good 3 minutes and then crashes. I dunno what the hell is going on
