I can watch somethings, like Bengals(best not to have money on them) but other things, you just need that umppp....to make it worth watching

You know betting has a lot to do with how successful a sport is i think.

I imagine a good chunck of viewers have something riding on it

I wouldn't know how many players are on the field in baseball.
I wouldn't be able to name 4 players in the NBA and would watch only the ends of college hoops games. I would still watch CFB religiously.

I'd probably be interested in tennis still and playoff matchups that are 2-2, 3-3. But, if I wouldn't be betting, my knowledge in college sports would just go back to square 1.

I'd go to jai alai, if I lived in Florida, esp. Miami, might watch the SB, and NBA finals, maybe the WS, too.

Betting is huge in American sports. I wouldn't watch one second of NFL without a bet. I never know what just happened, shit is called back with flags and penalties, every play. I wouldn't even want to attend an NFL game, NBA....I want Jack Niclausson's seat in LA, then I'll go, preferably with J-Lo sitting on my lap, to make it bearable.

MLB is real, minor league is the best, I like AAA, don't even have that in CT, 50 miles drive for AA baseball.

Jai alai is the best sport, of all.

I've been interested/involved in sports since I was a little leaguer long before I ever knew what gambling was. Watching sports today is an even great joy then when I was a youngster and it has little to do with gambling. I just love the games for the sport itself.

I really don't think so. I went to all the UNLV games when I lived out there, and nobody wagered on those games, even though the Strip was a mile away. I have tons of friends that love sports, and almost none of them bet at all. I believe that less than 10% of sports fans gamble on sports.

Even the king of wagering, the NFL, isn't as big as some claim it to be. Fantasy sports dominates, not wagering. Maybe that would change, if betting was legalized and taxed. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

I'd still follow 'my' teams.
Yankees, UCONN hoops, NY Giants, I do fantasy baseball so me following MLB would not change.

I see your point, but most fantasy leagues are very, very small stakes, and some involve no money at all. Just for fun.

what would you guess the average buy in is to play in a league ?

the one i use to run is around $ 275 . i would $ 250 is the average

i would be willing to bet that the % of leagues that involve no money at all is under 5 % . as far as one's run by friends for friends...

There are about 15 guys at work that do a baseball fantasy league with no money at all, and it's all they talk about every day. Their football league is $10 buy in for the entire year.
