NEW YORK -- The Cleveland Cavaliers have fired head coach Mike Brown, two league sources told SI.com.
Brown, who won the NBA's Coach of the Year Award last year, compiled a 272-138 record in five seasons leading the Cavaliers. He also led the team to the playoffs in each of those seasons, including a Finals apperance in 2007.
Cleveland's inability to return to the championship round in the last two years, especially after nabbing the league's best record in both seasons, drew criticism of Brown's ability to manage his team and winning rotations.
A source also told SI.com that GM Danny Ferry will be retained by the team for the forseeable future.

The team's effort sucked, total disgrace.

Not fouling with 60 seconds remaining in a 3 possession game was a total disgrace.

Not in the least bit shocking. I've never seen a coach who couldn't make adjustments during the game like him. We all know Lebron was coaching that team anyways. I wonder if it was done for Lebron.

I think that is the only way that they have a chance of keeping him in Cleveland.

He should've been fired 3 years ago though. Honestly, I wanted to see him coach the lebron-less cavs next season just so he could really get exposed. But, he'd probably be chicken shit and resign out of that too.

I am surprised they did it so quickly - I think that proves it was solely for the sake of keeping Lebron - normally I feel like they'd have some kind of cool-down period after the end of their season.

One of the most pathetic efforts ive ever seen from a team on the brink of elimination was in the 4th Q last night. Considering how heavily favored they were in the series, it may have been the most pathetic.

CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Cavaliers are keeping coach Mike Brown -- for now.
Team owner Dan Gilbert refuted an SI.com report Friday that Brown had been fired.

Brown
"That's not true," he said during a news conference. "We are right now just going through the evaluation process."
He said the team expects to have answers in the next week to 10 days.

Cavs are just waiting for Lebron to tell them what to do with Brown. Until and unless LBJ says he is def gone they will just Lebron be the de facto GM and owner and make all the decisions. Whatever he wants them to do they will do. LBJ and his posse will pull all the strings.

Agreed. I am totally amazed that the Cavs did not learn their lesson last season and get rid of him then. LBJ must really want Brown to stay.

he was yelling at he cavs to foul but the cavs didnt

That is probably worse than if he didn't tell them to foul....this means the team doesn't give a shit what their coach thinks....

Maybe if they tell Lebron he can coach the team then he will stay

You are absolutely right. The way he coached last year against Orlando showed how bad he is. I do realize though it would have been hard to fire a coach after he wins coach of the year. But they don't have that to worry about this year. He has to go.

He's always been terrible, he was in way over his head. He will definitely be fired before next season unless Lebron says "if you fire him I'm gone"
