the courtside tables at Bridgeport Jai alai in the late 70's , for like $5, with like Egurbi, Ondarres, Beirecua,Orbea, Churruca, Chimela, Lecube, and so many more greats playing....incredible !

I didn't see too much of Chimela, was injured in a car crash for like years, before I ever saw him.

Churruca was pretty solid in the backcourt, but many others were solid, also.

I have to like Egurbi, and Beirecua.

Give me Lecube in singles, deadly, if he got on serve. I loved his high carom shot, and he could reel off like 5 ace serves in a row.

those table seats were such a steal, like being behind homeplate with the great NYY teams, not too far to the West.

Cachin and Bolivar are like HOF awesome, and many more.

Attain ( from Fla , looked really good as a guest player) years ago. I hear Lopez is the best back courtman now, never seen him play, but he's supposed to be silly good, and wins like 25% of the time !

That's a solid line-up ! Fucking Orbea in the #2 hole, Chasio in a red shirt Bereicua in Green !

That's classic jai alai.

You don't even step on the court with Bereicua....he'll drill a remate at you like you wouldn't believe.

The famous "Bereicua Blast"....an inch over the metal on the front wall, and an inch inside the line ,as it heads to the screen....its either perfect and unreturnanable ( 85% of the time ) or just barely hits metal.

It's like the difference between an early game player, and a late game player.

That Bridgeport roster is like having the the NYY of that era with Munson, Nettles, Reggie Jackson, and Guidry pitching.

No jai alai roster will ever equal those days, no money to be made playing pelota now, so even a potential great player would drive a truck or something instead.

You used to be able to make at least 100k a year, if you were a top 20 player in the world, not now....maybe 50 k if you're top 10 in the world, or like mailman money of $25 / hour

Doug...what is your drink of choice? whiskey, vodka, beer, wine? you seem like a vodka drinker to me...or maybe gin.

beer most frequently, will do vodka (usually the cheapest type) cut with Gatotade type stuff or fruit juice, rarely drink other than beer or vodka, but I i do like Mike's hard lime, sort of like a wine cooler.

I'm dead serious about jai alai, though !

That 70's era card is great, and I love the game, and know those players.

I might even consider befriending Churruca and driving him to the amateur place, I guess he doesn't drive, from what I gather, but I'd go to like Fairfield and pick him up, if he wants to play backcourt for me, I'm a natural backcourtman, too, but I'd play front if the ( arguably best player of the last 30-40 years) was my partner, and I'd drive the guy there and back....

kinda like playing baseball with Yaz.

I'd drive Churruca around, if he plays backcourt for me, but it is not as easy as it sounds, probably like nearly 300 miles roundtrip and I'd of course buy dinner ( gladly)

I hear he needs a driver, not sure why, since he stayed in CT, instead of going back to Spain.

He can back me up, if I ever play again. I'll go fetch him.

jai alai even makes harness racing look like a Catholic church girls softball game as far as honesty.
Nothing more crooked than jai alai

I can see how someone could view it that way, but I disagree, and there is so little to gain by fixing a modern game ( no real money on it)

There is very little money ( now) in a trifecta pool at a place like Miami ( just a few K),

real hard to pull in a specific order of finish ( trifecta) 8X 7X6 = 336 ways.

it ain't fixed, a guy will throw a pelota at your head for a $25 win purse.

there is literally not even anything close to enough to even think about fixing a jai alai game, you'd have to go with the trifecta pool, then pull up something nutz like a 6-8-7 with maybe 2k in the pool. damn hard to pull up a 687 with all players and refs in on it, then split 2k ( if that) like 30+ ways.

It ain't fixed, can't be , no way to do it.

A modern player may not hustle, or care.

again, somebody has to be collecting on the fixed end of it, ain't gonna happen with something like a trifecta pool of 3k and a finish something like...

412
421
413
431
532
523
642
853
etc

those will have multiple tickets, and only a fool bets shit like 587 into a tiny pool.

You can't even fix jai alai !, not enough money to even consider it.

that;s just nasty !

I guess I toss Mugar from the #7 hole, maybe toss Chirtu from the 8 spot, tough stuff, I'd like the result of this game.

Fuckin Chasio threw the pelota at about 185 mph, and Churruca, Goyo, Echave, etc. returned it.

Goico was power too !

Churruca apparently requires a driver, to get to Berlin,CT, and lives somewhere around Fairfield , CT.

I'll drive him. I just want him to back me, pretty cool with arguably the best back court jai alai player EVER !

Doug and Churruca . I'll play front court. to his back

From what I hear the great Churruca doesn't have a DL, no idea if if that's from a DWI, or just being lazy.

I want the man.
