Read that Gale Sayers is critical of the current state of the Bears. When Brian Urlacher caught word of Sayers comments, he ripped him, saying he never won anything.

When I first read about this, I was thinking Sayers was a bitter old man. But I think he really cares about the Bears, and doesnt think enough players on their team cares. I think Urlacher shouldnt have gone to the media and is making himself look real bad now.

sayers seems like a pretty quiet guy, so I'd say if he feels the need to speak on the Bears they might want to listen.

Story about Urlacher and MMA fighter Bas Rutten:

Rutten [on FSN's Best Damn Sports Show]told the story of his altercation with Brian Urlacher of the Chicago Bears. They were at a charity event in Florida, and at a big party, the band knew Rutten and treated him like a big celebrity and he sang and played drums. As he was coming off stage and walking around, he accidentally stepped on Urlacher's foot. Urlacher got mad and shoved him. Rutten said he was sorry, and Urlacher said, "I don't need your sorry." Rutten then saw he was drinking a beer, and said the last thing he wanted to do was get into a fight at a charity event, so he said, "Look, I'll buy you a beer." Urlacher then said, "I don't need your beer." Rutten said his usual rule in a bar confrontation is three strikes and you're out (Rutten has legendary bar fight stories dating back to his days in Fruitopia), but he siad this wasn't the place and he just told Urlacher, "Okay, now you've got to stop," and walked away. Urlacher then said, "Do you want to go outside." Rutten turned around and started laughing, which probably wasn't the correct response by this time to diffuse the situation. Rutten then said, "Yes." By this point the bouncers had been alerted and they were already on the scene and pulled Urlacher away and basically told him they were saving his life and who the guy whe was picking a fight with was. When Urlacher was told, he went over to Rutten and apologized for everything."

Urlacher does have a point though, in that it's not like Gale Sayers ever won anything. Never won a single playoff game. Not saying it's his fault personally, of course, but would he criticize the teams he was on also for not being any good?

Urlacher stupid for sniping back though. What's the point?

This is one of those things that I think is GREATLLYYYY exaggerated....

I don't think Sayers meant anything by it. He was just answering someone questions on his thoughts. It was nothing personal against Urlacher... Urlacher did take it offensive, and given the timing, meaning now it's before the season has started, Urlacher was standing up for his team. I am sure the Bears believe they will be good... I think Urlacher had a good rebuttal...

However, if this was during the Season and the Bears still sucked, then Urlacher would be wrong.. but when it's just speculation, I think it's Urlacher obligation to stand up for his team.. and I don't think either of them care that much, nor dislike each other because of it... just my 2cents...

I'll never forget the time Sayers scored 5 TD's in one game. I just stared at the headlines in the newspaper in disbelieve.
