Flushed it with water and it's drying now... it was on when I spilled and I think it shorted out. Ugh. Anyone have any ideas on how to test to see if it's "inoperable"?

Glad I have a smartphone

When you start it I would start it up using the power cord without the battery in it.
That way if you need to shut the power off quickly you can just pull out the cord to turn it off.

I would get a big 5lb bag of white rice and a brown grocery bag. Dump the rice over your laptop while it is inside the bag and leave it sit for one full day. That rice will suck a lot of the moisture out of the critical spaces. Make sure there is rice everywhere.

I spilled maybe a tablespoon of coffee on my PC at work..Fried it dead... I hate to say it but I think your laptop is toast especially if it hit your harddrive or mother board

doesn't sound good. never put more liquid in there either.

better off cleaning it with cleaner while it's powered off.

take the battery out and let it sit over night at least 12 hours before turning it back on.

Pretty sure it's dead, but will let it dry another night before I test it. The spill was right on the processor... so, the good news is I can at least salvage the ddr3 memory and hd.

Calll it a learning experience.

Find a place a few feet away from your computer to put drinks. Use a coaster so you hit the same spot every time.

Moisture Is Deadly

to most electronics. Did it once on my keyboard, right during the peak of a Sat. foots betting cycle, disaster. Now I NEVER get any liquid w/in 3 ft of my stuff. BOL

Yeah, I would not expect a good outcome when you turn it on....Why is it so hard to keep our drinks away from our toys? I've lost three cell phones and two keyboards to water damage.

I have done this twice, once with beer and once with water on my laptop.

I have a Toshiba that is about 6 years old and not sure if it has a moisture sensitive shutdown in it but within a second of the liquids hitting the inner parts, it shut down. Drained out what I could and left it untill the next day, started back up no problem. IE asked me if I wanted to resume where I was prior to the moisture crisis, with that message it seemed like it has some sort of protection embedded in it.

Yeah, it'd dead. I let it dry for a little over a day, and then took a hair-dryer to it for good measure. Still absolutely nothing when I press the power button. Pulled the harddrive and ram, as neither were near the spill and can hopefully be salvaged when I have to buy a new laptop Tuesday.
