PS. FWIW I am just having a little fun. Watching oldtimer Tim Wakefield throw 60 MPH knucklers at the hard hitting defending World Series winning Phils for eight 5 hit shutout innings to win his 190th game, passing HOFer Lefty Grove on the all time win list as a Major League pitcher (176 wearing a Red Sox uniform) was great. The win was against future HOFer and great righthander (who I wish was with the Red Sox) Roy Haladay and was something to warm an over 50 year die hard Boxox fan's heart.

Wakefield’s knuckleball, which was clocked in the mid 60s, clearly confused the Phillies. I know Tim is on his last legs as a major league pitcher and I know he is outclassed by Halladay. Imagine how his family, teammates and fans must feel seeing the 43 year old pitch like he did 20 years ago one more time. My wish for Tim is ten more wins before he hangs them up, very doable for a guy who can pitch nearly everyday thanks to his knuckler. Tim has 2003 career strike outs, 63rd on the all time list. His 32 career complete games are only surpassed by Halladay and Livian Hernandez among active Major League pitchers. Only Jamie Moyer has more innings pitched among active players than Wake's 2980 innings pitched.

He currently ranks third in all time wins in a Red Sox uniform at 176, behind Cy Young and Roger Clemens who are tied at 192, I really would like to see him somehow pass them to but it is a longshot, and ranks second in all time wins at Fenway Park with 91, behind Roger Clemens' 95, a record he will own this year..

Also noted for his selfless actions on the field, and his charitable contributions off, Wakefield has been nominated 7 times for the Roberto Clemente Award, presented to the player who best reflects the spirit of giving back to the community.

Since 1998, Wakefield has partnered with the Franciscan Hospital for Children in Boston to bring patients to Fenway Park to share time with him on and off the field. He has also hosted an annual celebrity golf tournament for 18 years. Wakefield has also been active with New England's Pitching in for Kids organization (a program dedicated to improving the lives of children across the New England region), the Space Coast Early Intervention Center in Melbourne, Florida, and the Touch 'Em All Foundation founded by Garth Brooks.
In 2007, Wakefield released a charity wine called CaberKnuckle in association with Longball Vineyards with 100% of the proceeds supporting Pitching In For Kids and raised more than $100,000. Sports could use all the Tim Wakefields it can get.

I was a Sox fan when they really sucked and feel like I can root for them now that they are competitive finally during the last decade...
