Just a reminder about the annual Click it or Ticket seat belt crack down. You will want to pay extra attention to your seat belt status during this time.

If you are like me and only wear a seat belt when conditions warrant, consider putting the wretched thing on more often in the coming weeks.

And just because I know someone will feel obligated to state the obvious, I will say this. Wearing a seat belt usually makes sense. However, using law enforcement to punish unwise decisions that do not harm others is counter to living in a free society and is akin to living in a nanny/police state.

Conditions always warrant wearing a seatbelt; if you know anything about statistical probability, you know that wearing it is always +EV.

Oh really? Example A: guy drives his whole life and always wears a seat belt. He gets in 1 accident where the seat belt reduces his injuries. That is a case of +EV. Example B: guy drives his whole life and always wears a seat belt. He never gets into an accident. How does his case show +EV?

"Conditions always warrant wearing a seatbelt"
Not true and totally absurd.

Blows my mind that they MAKE us wear the damn thing, but in many states people ride motorcycles with the choice of wearing a helmet. Fuck that

Whether conditions warrant it or not, it should be MY choice. The seatbelt law is the most ridiculous law there is.

Sadly, you and I both know it has absolutely nothing to do with choice; seat belt laws are for the Greater Good! Oh, not yours or mine, but for the municipality. I don't know how it is for you, but in Albany, a $95 ticket had a $55 surcharge on it and the ticket took the cop about 130 seconds to write and an additional 60 seconds to get in and out of his vehicle. Now THAT'S +EV!

How we haven't started throwing tea into the Atlantic again is beyond my understanding.

Edit: Let's not forget the potential piling on by insurance companies if they didn't make it mandatory, especially with the NTSB constantly just making up numbers. "No seat belt laws?! My god, we gotta raise premiums by eleventeen percent ... each year!"
