The following is a thread I made in 2008 elsewhere I received a lot of backlash from.

Would you agree now with the original statements that were made, or the replies that came afterwards.....

Looks Like The Lakers Are A Little Overconfident In Andrew Bynum

4 years - $58 Million

Are you kidding me?!?

Yeah, the guy's getting better but for career averages of 7 Points & 5.5 Rebounds per game, and the fact (watch & see) that he'll never better his overall numbers much more from last year (13 & 10), that money could have been used to put towards a stud free agent later on.

The only thing that makes sense with this deal is that centers are currently scarce in the NBA, and that he fits the Lakers' puzzle.

Just my opinon & I know many of you disagree.......

Career average? That is the most useless stat when you are talking about a kid that is 21.

It's not if he will dominate. It's when...

What else does this team need? They are loaded at every position.

No chance Lakers would come close to signing another FA for the next few years. I think they would want to keep what they have and if anything trade Odom. They are very young team and are set to compete for titles for the next 4-5 years.

NBA salaries are crazy. Eton Thomas got 40 million.

Bargain

How is that a fact? WTF are you talking about?
Lakers don't have any needs.

steal!!

hache sometimes you are so off on your views.

but i love you anyway.

it makes for good convo!

Bynum is a freak, whatever they pay him is too little. He's 21 and has size and moves and is still learning.

The guys is a straight stud. His moves have been getting better and better with the work of kareem. The guy cant be stopped down low and when the lake crew go to him he delivers. It's "tough" to get numbers when you are the third option behind Kobe and Gasol.

good move by the lakers - bynum is going to be a stud. his footwork is improving and he has great hands, think he'll be an all-star within 3 years.

When I heard Bynum was gonna make $15M a year, I never thought, "Wow, what a steal." Despite guys like Stephen A Smith and everyone calling it just that.

I was very skeptical of Bynum, in fact, and sure enough, he has not proven his worth. Not by a long shot.

He's been a non-factor for the last three postseasons. They should've waited until the end of the year to give him half that.

Bynum has so much potential when he's healthy. He could become a top 5 center, easy, due to his length. But his recurring knee injuries - not to mention shoulders and elbow - and his mental weakness, neutralizes most of his upside.

I don't know what to think of Bynum, honestly. I think an aggressive, healthy Bynum is worth $15M, but we only get that 20% of the season. If we are gonna trade him, who are we gonna get? We need someone just as tall and strong. I don't see any available candidates in the NBA.
