Selected notes:

• At the summit: The aforementioned Josh Johnson is 2-0 lifetime against the Brewers and has a microscopic 0.33 ERA over the past three weeks. He gets the top spot, just ahead of Hiroki Kuroda, who has a 1.20 ERA when facing the streaking Atlanta Braves.

• Jered Weaver has not won since May 7 but has a 3.35 ERA against the Kansas City Royals, who are batting just .256 over the past week of play. That's not great, but it's still light years better than the Chicago White Sox, last in the American League in hitting with a .240 team average. That's why Colby Lewis ranks so high in spite of the so-so stats.

• Rounding out the tops for the day: CC Sabathia has been atrocious of late, but the Baltimore Orioles already have fallen victim to him twice in 2010, and he's 11-1 against them in his career. ... Zack Greinke does everything except win, and the 1-3 lifetime mark against the Los Angeles Angels seems far too typical for him.

• Middle-of-the-road options: Carl Pavano is unbeaten against the Seattle Mariners with a 3.46 ERA. Felix Hernandez certainly will keep his side close, but we give the slight edge to the pitcher on the team that isn't 11 games under .500.

• Streamers on alert: Kris Medlen is 1-0 with a 2.35 ERA against the Los Angeles Dodgers. ... Rick Porcello is 4-0 lifetime against the Cleveland Indians, including a win over the Tribe earlier this season. ... Brett Anderson, who looked good in his return from the disabled list, has a 2.05 ERA when facing the Boston Red Sox but might be removed sooner rather than later, as Oakland might still want to err on the side of caution with him as he recovers from injury.

• Stay away: David Huff says he has no ill effects after getting hit in the head with an Alex Rodriguez comebacker, but you probably should watch him get through a few innings before inserting him back in your fantasy rotation. ... As for the quartet of Brian Moehler, Freddy Garcia, Kevin Millwood and Tim Wakefield, all have career ERAs of 4.08 or higher against their Thursday opponents, and only Garcia has more than one win on the season

Hitters' count:

Carlos Lee, OF, Houston Astros: When you're hitting .206 for the season, a streak of five out of six games with base hits is pure gold. Lee has never faced J.D. Martin, but he is batting .301 against the rest of the Washington Nationals' staff. If not now, Lee owners, then when?

Jorge Cantu, 3B, Florida Marlins: Throw out the Roy Halladay perfecto, and Cantu is hitting .367 since May 21. Plus he's hitting .333 versus the Brewers over the past two seasons.

Cristian Guzman, 2B, Washington Nationals: A middle infielder hitting .388 for the month of May, Guzman is still owned in less than half of ESPN leagues. Sure there's no power here, but he's still managed an OPS of 1.063 against Brian Moehler.

Vladimir Guerrero, DH, Texas Rangers: Coming off a .330 May, Guerrero should keep it going in June, especially against Freddy Garcia, whom he's slugging .500 against in 20 career at-bats .

Brandon Inge, 3B, Detroit Tigers: Inge is 6-for-10 in his past three games and has hit .333 against the Cleveland Indians this season in 24 at-bats.

Pitchers' count:

Matt Wieters, C, Baltimore Orioles: In his past three games, Wieters is 0-for-10, and he is only 2-for-12 with five strikeouts against CC Sabathia in his young career.

Corey Hart, OF, Milwaukee Brewers: Yes, he has five home runs in his past five games, but don't hurt yourself jumping on the Hart bandwagon Thursday, gang. He's facing Josh Johnson, and the outfielder is hitting just .184 against the current crop of Marlins.

Michael Cuddyer, OF, Minnesota Twins: With a 2-for-18 résumé against Felix Hernandez, there's no way Cuddyer gets a second interview.

Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta Braves: On fire! That's Escobar, who is in the midst of a 7-for-12 hot streak. Let's call Hiroki Kuroda the fire hose. The shortstop has never had a hit against the Dodgers pitcher.

Juan Rivera, OF, Los Angeles Angels: Rivera is hitting just .128 against the Royals' roster of arms and is hitless in six lifetime at-bats against Zack Greinke.

Baseball Challenge Pick of the Day

Andre Ethier, RF, Los Angeles Dodgers: He used the series against the Arizona Diamondbacks to shake off the rust, and now he's ready to renew his quest for the Triple Crown against the Braves, whom Ethier hit .367 against last season with three home runs in 30 at-bats.

Tickets Yankee Stadium | 1:05 PM ET
BAL Kevin Millwood, RHP (0-5, 3.89)
Orioles (15-38) @ NYY CC Sabathia, LHP (4-3, 4.16)
Yankees (33-20)

Orioles: And as has been the case in all 11 of his starts, Millwood was there to absorb the brunt of the Orioles' sloppy defense and lack of offensive support in Friday's 5-0 loss to Toronto. The de facto ace of the Orioles staff, Millwood allowed four earned runs over six innings -- two of which came in his final frame -- and was handed his fifth loss of the season. Millwood's 3.98 ERA is the lowest for a starter who opened the season with 11 straight winless decisions since Rick Langford had a 2.62 ERA after 11 winless starts to open the 1978 season for Oakland. He will try to buck the trend on Wednesday in New York. Millwood is 1-8 with a 6.16 ERA in nine career starts against the Yankees.

Yankees: It's rare indeed to see the Yankees lose a game in which they score 11 runs; it's even rarer when they have Sabathia on the mound. Sabathia wasn't the primary culprit in the Bombers' 13-11 loss last Saturday to the Indians -- his bullpen did allow eight runs in the game -- but he chided himself afterward for keeping the Tribe in the game. Sabathia looked lights-out through the first three innings, but he labored after that, giving up five runs in six taxing innings. It was the third time in his past four starts that Sabathia surrendered five runs or more in a start, and the Yankees are 0-4 over that stretch. He is 2-0, however, against the Orioles this season, giving up a total of four runs in 15 2/3 innings in two starts. That's par for the course for Sabathia, who is a remarkable 11-1 with a 2.52 ERA in 16 career starts against Baltimore.

Tickets Comerica Park | 1:05 PM ET
CLE David Huff, LHP (2-6, 5.54)
Indians (19-32) @ DET Rick Porcello, RHP (4-5, 5.27)
Tigers (27-25)

Indians: Huff is making his next turn in the rotation, and that seems like a miracle to those who saw him whacked in the head by an Alex Rodriguez line drive in the third inning of his start against the Yankees on Saturday. Huff was taken off the field on a motorized cart and taken to a nearby hospital, where a CT scan showed no brain damage and doctors determined he had no signs of a concussion. Huff threw a bullpen session two days later and was confirmed to be making this start. The only question is whether he'll have any lingering fear of another lined shot.

Tigers: Porcello has alternated wins and losses in his past seven outings, though he owns quality starts in three of his past four assignments. He gave up two runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings last Saturday against Oakland, taking the loss. Porcello beat the Indians in the Tigers' home opener back in April, adding to his success against the Indians. He's 4-0 with a 2.10 ERA in five career starts against Cleveland.

Tickets Fenway Park | 1:35 PM ET
OAK Brett Anderson, LHP (2-1, 1.88)
Athletics (28-26) @ BOS Tim Wakefield, RHP (1-3, 5.68)
Red Sox (31-23)

Athletics: Anderson, who was activated from the disabled list on Saturday after missing time due to a strained left forearm and elbow tendinitis, put together 5 2/3 shutout innings against the Tigers later in the day, making his first start in more than a month. He allowed just three hits while walking none and striking out four in the 70-pitch effort. A healthy Anderson once again gives the A's a solid five-man rotation, which has officially lost righty Justin Duchscherer (hip) for the season. In three career starts against Boston, Anderson is 2-1 with a 2.05 ERA. Through 22 innings against the Red Sox last year, he tallied 22 strikeouts.

Red Sox: The veteran knuckleballer endured one of the worst starts of his career in his last outing, blowing early leads of 3-0 and 5-2 in a 12-5 loss to the Royals. Over 3 2/3 innings, Wakefield was pelted for 12 hits and nine runs. The big blow was a grand slam off the bat of Yuniesky Betancourt. All in all, Wakefield has done a nice job when called upon this season, turning in quality starts in four of his seven starts. Wakefield has 190 wins in his career, 176 of which have been for the Red Sox. Lifetime at Fenway, he is 91-71 with a 4.35 ERA. In his career vs. Oakland, Wakefield is 11-6 with a 4.08 ERA.

Tickets Minute Maid Park | 2:05 PM ET
WSH J.D. Martin, RHP (0-1, 1.50)
Nationals (26-28) @ HOU Brian Moehler, RHP (0-2, 7.29)
Astros (19-34)

Nationals: Martin made his first start of the season last Saturday at San Diego, allowing four hits and one earned run in six innings. He struck out five, walked none and gave up a home run, to Nick Hundley in his 88 pitches. He went 5-4 with a 4.44 ERA in 15 starts last year with Washington. Martin was called up last Friday from Triple-A Syracuse, where he was 2-1 with a 2.97 ERA, to replace outfielder Justin Maxwell on the Washington roster. It will be difficult for Martin to hold his spot in the rotation with left-hander Scott Olsen due back soon from a shoulder injury and right-hander Stephen Strasburg expected to debut between June 8 and 10 vs. Pittsburgh.

Astros: Moehler began the season in the bullpen and made 12 relief appearances before making a spot start on Saturday in place of Bud Norris, who was placed on the disabled list with bursitis and biceps tendinitis. In that start, Moehler was rocked for 10 hits and eight earned runs in 2 2/3 innings, and he struggled with his location. He's 3-4 with a 4.87 ERA in 14 career games (nine starts) against the Nationals and is 10-14 with a 5.32 ERA in 67 career appearances (22 starts) at Minute Maid Park. Moehler is 80-99 with a 4.90 ERA in 245 career starts.

Tickets Kauffman Stadium | 2:10 PM ET
LAA Jered Weaver, RHP (4-2, 3.01)
Angels (27-28) @ KC Zack Greinke, RHP (1-6, 3.39)
Royals (22-32)

Angels: Weaver pitched brilliantly on Saturday at home against the Mariners, giving up one unearned run across seven innings on three hits and three walks, striking out six. Performing like an ace, Weaver has had good-to-excellent efforts in nine of his 11 outings, pounding the strike zone while getting increasing mileage out of his changeup along with a deadly slider. Weaver is 3-4 with a 3.35 ERA in seven career starts against the Royals and 2-2 with a 5.09 ERA in four outings at Kauffman Stadium.

Royals: Greinke gave up just one run in six innings last Saturday night in Boston, but it was enough to deal him his sixth loss, 1-0. The Royals have rarely supported Greinke offensively this season, averaging just three runs in his 11 starts. Just missing on his location often, he ran up 115 pitches (66 strikes) while giving up five hits and three walks. Afterward, he lamented that his slider, such a good pitch for him last season, was not getting the job done this year, and he's not sure why. Against the Angels last season, he was 0-1 in two starts but had an 0.56 ERA. The loss was 1-0 in a complete-game effort. Next time, he shut them out for eight innings, but the Royals lost, 2-1, in 11 innings.

Tickets Sun Life Stadium | 7:10 PM ET
MIL Chris Capuano, LHP (0-0, -.--)
Brewers (22-31) @ FLA Josh Johnson, RHP (5-2, 2.19)
Marlins (27-27)

Brewers: Capuano will be making his first Major League appearance since Sept. 28, 2007, after more than two years spent rehabbing a left elbow injury that required Tommy John surgery, the second of his career. Capuano replaces fellow lefty Manny Parra in Milwaukee's rotation and has a chance to put to rest a nasty streak. Since a May 17, 2007 win over the Nationals, in which Capuano worked eight scoreless innings, the Brewers are 0-22 when Capuano has pitched. He is 0-12 with a 6.08 ERA in that span, which includes 18 starts and four relief appearances.

Marlins: History happened when Johnson last took the mound, but fate wasn't on his side. Johnson was impressive in seven innings against the Phillies. He allowed one unearned run. However, he had the misfortune of pitching the same day Roy Halladay tossed the 20th perfect game in MLB history. Johnson had a string of 20 straight scoreless innings snapped with an unearned run. He hasn't allowed an earned run in 25 straight innings.

Tickets U.S. Cellular Field | 8:10 PM ET
TEX Colby Lewis, RHP (4-3, 3.41)
Rangers (28-24) @ CWS Freddy Garcia, RHP (4-3, 5.26)
White Sox (22-30)

Rangers: Lewis was 1-3 with a 4.11 ERA in May. He lost to the Twins, 2-1, on Friday by allowing two runs in six innings. He struck out just one and walked four. It's the fourth time this season he has walked four or more in a game. He is 1-3 with a 3.65 ERA in six starts on the road. Opponents are hitting .204 off him, but he has walked 28 while striking out 59 in 63 1/3 innings. He struck out a season-low one against the Twins on Friday. Opponents are hitting .154 off him with runners in scoring position.

White Sox: Garcia showed the importance of a veteran presence on the mound during the White Sox 4-2 victory over the Rays on Friday night. After getting crushed by the Marlins during his last start at home on Sunday, Garcia came back to absolutely shut down the best team in baseball by record. The right-hander gave up just two runs on four hits over seven innings, setting a season high with seven strikeouts and walking two. Garcia needed a mere 89 pitches to get through the seven frames at Tropicana Field. Garcia has not faced Texas this season, but has a 6-5 career mark against the Rangers. Garcia also has a 3-1 record on the road in 2010 but just a 1-2 mark at home, with a slightly lower 5.24 ERA.

Tickets Dodger Stadium | 10:10 PM ET
ATL Kris Medlen, RHP (2-1, 2.85)
Braves (31-22) @ LAD Hiroki Kuroda, RHP (5-3, 3.55)
Dodgers (31-22)

Braves: With Braves pitcher Jair Jurrjens out until late June with a strained left hamstring, Medlen has continued to be invaluable in his switch from the bullpen to the rotation. In four starts, the 24-year-old has an ERA of 3.25 while completing 22 1/3 innings. Manager Bobby Cox has stressed the need to stretch out Medlen's pitch count, and thus far, the right-hander has hovered close to 95 pitches. Medlen hasn't been overpowering with his repertoire of pitches -- instead preferring to let opposing batters put the ball in play. However, the righty did have a season-high six strikeouts against the Mets on May 18.

Dodgers: Kuroda has taken losses in his past two outings, but his most recent start on Saturday against the Rockies was his worst of the season. He lasted four innings and allowed five runs on 10 hits, walking one but also striking out just one. Kuroda has owned the Braves in two career starts, allowing two runs and eight hits with four walks and 10 strikeouts in 15 innings. Pitching at home hasn't made much of a difference to Kuroda this season: his ERA is 3.62 at Dodger Stadium and 3.48 on the road, with five starts made at each.

Tickets Safeco Field | 10:10 PM ET
MIN Carl Pavano, RHP (5-5, 3.99)
Twins (31-22) @ SEA Felix Hernandez, RHP (2-4, 3.50)
Mariners (21-31)

Twins: In his last outing, Pavano held the division-leading Rangers to only two runs on seven hits. Pavano has pitched well nearly all season, but the Twins' offense has not been able to give him much support in his starts. Entering his start Saturday, he had the least amount of run support of any Twins starter. However, after an eight-run effort by Minnesota in his last outing Pavano is now right along with his fellow starters. Pavano has allowed two runs or fewer in seven of his 10 starts this season. His one strikeout against the Rangers was his lowest mark of the year. He has 42 total strikeouts this season. In his last outing, he managed to get his ERA below the 4.00 mark for the first time since May 12.

Mariners: Hernandez didn't hesitate to call his performance against the Angels on Saturday his best of the season. The right-hander allowed only one run over eight-plus innings, with seven strikeouts and just six hits allowed. But he received just one run of support and remained winless for his seventh straight start. He is 3-3 with a 2.77 ERA in nine career starts against the Twins.

The power rating system is based on recent game results. The section should be used to compare the relative strength of the two teams involved. A power line is calculated using both teams ratings and home field advantage. Where the power line differs significantly from the current line, the team with the edge is indicated.

speaking of starters:

Brewers starter Chris Capuano will make his first start since the 2007 campaign tonight in the finale of a four-game series against the Florida Marlins. Capuano completed two years of rehabilitation following his second career Tommy John surgery and made seven minor league starts before tonight's debut at Sun Life Stadium. He'll be making his first start since September 28, 2007 versus San Diego, as he allowed three runs in five innings of a 6-3 loss for the no-decision. The lefty has lost his last 12 decisions and owns a 3-1 record and a 2.85 earned run average in six career starts against the Marlins.

Milwaukee has lost Capuano's last 22 appearances, with the former draft pick of the Diamondbacks making 18 starts and four relief appearances in that span.
