Spin:
Kearns is hitless in his last 10 at-bats and will get a day off to rest Thursday. Matt LaPorta will start in left.

Spin:
Damon is hitting just .232 since the start of May, but he's been walking enough to post a nice .336 OBP. He'll get a day off on Thursday.

Spin:
With a day game on tap for Thursday, the Red Sox held Martinez out of Wednesday night's game. It also gave him a chance to rest his toe, which is still somewhat sore.

Spin:
Drew is hitting just .194 against lefties this season, so he'll sit against Oakland southpaw Brett Anderson. Bill Hall will start in right field.

</td><td valign="top">Aybar got the day off on Wednesday, but when he returns he will likely bat lower in the lineup, the LA Times reports.
Spin:
Maicer Izturis batted leadoff on Wednesday and it looks like he will stay in that spot for the time being. Manager Mike Scioscia said that he plans to determine the leadoff hitter on a "day-to-day, matchup basis," but that probably means that Aybar will bat leadoff when Izturis is out of the lineup. Aybar has not gotten the job done atop the order this year, but hopefully the move down the order helps him regain his confidence and improve his batting average.

Spin:
Despite a dominant May performance, Ortiz is hitting just .212 against lefties, and just one of his 11 homers have come against southpaws. He'll sit out against Oakland left-hander Brett Anderson.

Spin:
The inflammation Jones is experiencing in his right ring finger isn't expected to keep him out long. For now, Omar Infante will get the start at third base.

Spin:
Guerrero still has some swelling around his left eye, where he was hit by a ricochet during batting practice on Wednesday. His vision is fine and x-rays were negative, so he should be back in the lineup in a day or two as the swelling subsides.
