Who exactly loses out because of it?

For fans, you would have push being a pedantic asshole to the limit to appreciate what Galarraga did any differently

The team still won

Don't think anyone had the prop bet that he would throw a no-hitter that day

The Hall-of-Fame is allowed to honor him by displaying a ball from the game. The Tigers are allowed to honor him the same way as if all 27 outs were consecutive

His stat line will be different at the end of the year, but that has happened from every missed call going back to the nineteenth century -- and so often balances out over the course of a career

Don't think anyone had the prop bet that he would throw a no-hitter that day

Galarraga's earning potential did not change at all. Actually take that back, it may have increased due to exposure. I guess the umpire might lose out on some work

The boxscore is written a little differently

Guys on the internet are wasting valuable time that could be spent arguing Kobe v Jordan

Other than that, what differences are occuring because of it?

The record books aren't allowed to show he pitched a perfect game.

But the people who read the record books are still allowed to view at the performance exactly the same as if it was listed

Is that not what you are going to do, Santo?

In 120+ years of baseball there have been 20 of these. 20. You're saying it doesn't matter?

I am saying you are allowed to view it as exceptional as those other 20. Are you really choosing not to do that?

Further, when I did by the record book (Total Baseball), there was a fair amount of editorials included. It would have been perfectly reasonable to see an article about perfect games that included mention of Ernie Shore and Armando Galarraga

I think we all gained from the class that the Tigers organization showed in handling it Everyone knew the ump messed up, acknowledged it, and moved on.
