Ahoy fellow Rxers! :howdy:
First the recap. Missed on yesterday's play on the Cubs over 4.5 runs. Thought they would come back from their two-day break well rested and ready to roll against a pitcher they carved up in a previous meeting.
I couldn't have been more wrong.
The Cubs only reached base six times all game as Paulino picked up his first win of the season while striking out seven in eight innings. It was the best start of his terrible career.
:scared1:
Anyways, I found a nice dog I like today.
Florida Marlins +105
I like the Marlins in this spot for a number of reasons. Last night's loss was Florida's first against the Mets in seven games. The Marlins had won the previous six.
This afternoon they will go up against Jon Niese, who is making his first start since coming off the disabled list. Prior to heading on the DL, Niese was 1-2 with a 4.79 ERA. In a start against Florida earlier this year, he allowed five hits, a walk, five runs (two earned) before leaving with a hamstring injury. The Marlins scored all those runs in the third inning before Niese could even record an out. In two career starts against the Marlins, Niese is 0-2 with a 5.63 ERA.
Righties are batting .342 against Niese this season, and the Marlins have an almost all right-handed hitting lineup, with leadoff man Chris Coghlan being the only lefty. Coghlan, though, is on fire. He's had five straight multi hit games to raise his batting average more than 30 points from .217.
Nate Robertson, meanwhile, has had some success against the Mets. He's 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA versus the Mets in three career starts.
Bottom line: I can't see the Mets sweeping this series and I think the Marlins even it up today. The Mets are far from full health and have had to tap into some of their younger players who probably aren't quite ready to be everyday players.
TIME TO WALK THE PLANK, METS!
