I have recently ordered road runner for my home.

I have 2 computers, when I hook up my laptop, internet works great.....this laptop is old and on its last legs (I think I bought it in 2004...dell 600m).

My second computer is getting old but I have not used it in about 8 months. It has been sitting and collecting dust. It is a Core2Duo 2.4Mhz w/ 3GB ram and not sure about anything else....(Dell Vostro) I bout it in november 2007 so it is over 2 years old.

This desktop for some reason works great then slow then great then slow.....VERY irritating....was working fine before I moved it into my current residence about 8 months ago.

Speaking of which, I keep getting knocked offline when using Explorer. Anyone have any ideas as to why this maybe the case?

I use ad-aware from lavsasoft and malwarebytes. Both have good free versions. Seems there is more crap loading onto my computer daily, and surfing the same sites as I always have. 2 nights ago surfed about 45 minutes, ad-aware found 33 minor problems. Surfed again for about 20 minutes, ran the program again and had 22 more. Been getting these annoying surveys for almost every site I go to, so you know it isn't the sites that are originating these.

i do the same crap on my desktop as I do on my laptop...in fact I do more on my laptop.....and I think my desktop is more active in catching malware items...

it has to be something physically wrong or some kind of problem that may arise from non-activity

basically works fine one day, take a break for 8 months and then kind of slow

Open up the case and get all the dust out. Check all your wires , ram , fans .. ect. System restore might work if its anything internal . To many things out there f with computers. If its not spy/addware problem or virus. Log onto your task manager and see what programs are running and how much cpu % each one is using as well as ram. My computer runs slow when my AVG or other anti virus programs do a scan and its about 4 months old.
