One fan's perspective (not mine):

The Cost of Watching Teixeira Strike Out 5 Times
<hr style="color: rgb(255, 255, 255); background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);" size="1"> <!-- / icon and title --> <!-- message --> Two tickets in the first level 71 X 2 = $142
Go Train into the Sky Dome for 2 $24
Lunch for 2 at Jack Asters $80
Beer, Lemonade, Ice Cream at the Dome $100

Watching a player who signed a $180 million dollar contract over 8 years strikeout 5 times.

Mind boggling.

They won a World Series in the guy's first year with the team. Everyone forgot about that already?

Didn't he lead the league in HR, RBI and total bases, finish second in the MVP voting and win a gold glove?

You sign a $180 million contract to play in New York, and then bat .215 with more K's than RBI's and people
are going to feel entitled to bitch.

Unless you are the owner, you don't pay his salary, unless of course you are dumb enough to go to games (not directed at you personally FZ).

I don't understand why people go to games? 50% chance your team is going to lose. Spend an hour going and coming. If the game is a blowout either way, it is boring.
The cost of concessions and parking should be illegal. You can watch every game on TV, change the channel if it is a blowout.

The price you stated, I could fly from Houston to the Caribbean and take my wife for the cost of 2 games. Memories are made on vacations, not June baseball games in Toronto for $380.

Not a rant, but I very big on how to allocate disposable income. I have so many friends that waste money on stupid things, but wonder why they can't do other things in life. Yes, you can argue it is stupid to me, but important to them.

Why go to games? Because this is America, and there's not much better than a summer baseball game at the park, watching your favorite team. We're all gonna be dead in 100 years, so do what you like.

This WAS America ! Something like attending a regular season MLB game at a cost of $380 for a couple is just too much money ! How the Hell can you justify that expense unless you make 100k ++ ?

Same for say a concert.

Look at what stuff cost say in 1969, like a ticket to a Rolling Stones concert, or a baseball game....run it through an inflation calculator, then compare results.

The Stones concert that was maybe $7 is maybe $40 in today's dollars with flat inflation, but actually $175 now.

Same shit with baseball/NFL/etc. tix.

How about this scenario....

Say, I live in CT and make 40k a year ( realistic $20/hr job)

Say I'm single, take a date to a NYY game, this costs me $400 ( or 1% of my annual income), to just see a baseball game in the city !

1% of annual income to attend a game in nice fashion is too much. I guess it is the Norwich Navigators for me.

You might say get a better job, but people would kill you to make $20/hr ( like at the post office).

Baseball is the only major sport I'd even desire to see live.

That's what's so awesome about being a consumer in the free market. By definition, if some things have exceeded inflation, that means there are goods and services that have increased much less than inflation. Just buy those things and you're getting so much better values than the people in the previous decades

Love Angel games out here in California (especially with the Budweiser Patio!!).. Saw my Yanks when they were in town got 2 tickets off stubhub 2 hours before the game and talk about cheap.

2 tickets (Right Field decent seats) = $56 total
Parking = Free (with about a 1/3 mile walk)
4 Beers (2 me/2 her) = $48

Total $104 for a solid 3 hours of date time with plenty of talk time...not too bad.

and regarding Tex striking out 5 times, ya..pretty bad, but it happens to EVERYONE. I'll be sure to forgive him in October when he's bashing in runs on the way to another ring :toast:

the real problem here aint what dude is paid its that he is gonna be in the allstar game and got more voting then someone hitting near 350 and possibly AL's top batter Miguel Cabrera.. bout same fielding as texeria.. dont think either a gold glovers. lol. how pathetic. a 200 batter gets it before a 340 batter. .. sad world
