St. Louis will face its third straight left-hander in the series when Manny Parra (1-3, 4.06 ERA) takes the ball for the Brewers.
Making his third start of the season, Parra gets the nod over the struggling Dave Bush despite allowing three runs in three innings of an 8-6 win over the New York Mets on May 29 in his most recent outing.
Parra has pitched well in 10 starts against the Cardinals, going 2-1 with a 3.06 ERA.
The Cardinals turn to rookie Jaime Garcia (5-2, 1.32 ERA), who looks to continue his stellar season with a third straight victory Sunday.
After not allowing a run in 11 innings while not factoring in the decision of his previous two outings, the left-hander earned a victory Monday after giving up three and striking out six in six innings of a 12-4 win over Cincinnati.
Garcia won his lone career start against the Brewers, surrendering a run and four hits in six innings of a 7-1 victory at Milwaukee in his season debut April 10.
Parra to fill in for Bush: MLB.com reports that Brewers SP Manny Parra will take Dave Bush's start on Sunday as Bush is dealing with a blister. "I'm excited any time I get to start," Parra said. "But other than the fact I'm going to start Sunday, I know absolutely nothing. It really doesn't matter, because there's no reason for me to think about anything else."
(Updated 06/03/2010).
Parra has made two starts this season, producing a 5.14 ERA over seven innings of work. He has been better as a reliever, but as Bush shouldn't miss too much time with this issue, Parra shouldn't be added in anything but the deepest of daily NL-only leagues.
arcia gets focused after delay: Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia over came a shaky start in a 12-4 win over the Cardinals on Monday. Garcia allowed two runs and three hits in the first inning. The game was delayed for an hour by rain and that is when Garcia got focused. "I think in the first inning, sometimes it's kind of like a shaky one for me because I'm learning," Garcia said. "After the delay I was able to stay focused, stay in the game mentally and physically." He only allowed an unearned run on four hits in the next five innings. Garcia also chipped in at the plate going 2 for 2 and scoring twice. He allowed three runs, two earned on seven hits in six innings. He walked three and struck out six. He is now 5-2 with a 1.32 ERA on the season.
(Updated 05/31/2010).
Garcia continues to dazzle this year. He now leads all NL rookies in victories and strikeouts (51) and is holding left-handed hitters to a .103 average. He has not allowed more than two earned runs in all 10 of his starts this year. Garcia has become an elite Fantasy option at SP
