Selected notes:
• Despite convincing results to the contrary, Jonathan Sanchez is not quite an elite pitcher. Elite pitchers don't walk more than four batters per nine innings, for example. Indeed, for someone who has allowed just four home runs in 68 1/3 innings, Sanchez's fly-ball percentage is awfully high (33 percent, where he is sandwiched between the Jeremy Guthries and Homer Baileys of the world). In other words, he, too, will suffer a severe regression in the coming weeks or months. While I still like him, and always have, there's no way I'm starting him on the road against one of baseball's best offenses, the (gulp) Cincinnati Reds. And have you seen the Big Red Machine at home? Only the New York Yankees have a better mark than their .844 OPS. Don't play with fire.
• Do you bench a struggling pitcher who draws an easy matchup, or do you cut your losses and keep him glued to your bench? That's the dilemma C.J. Wilson's owners have Wednesday when he faces the Seattle Mariners. On one hand, Wilson has a bloated 8.57 ERA in his last four starts; on the other, he still has a solid strikeout and groundball rate, and the Mariners are a worse offensive team than any team he faced in that four-start stretch. I don't think he's as good as he showed in his first seven starts or as bad as he's been recently, so I would still throw him out there with confidence.
• I'm sure all you've been reading in recent weeks how Ian Kennedy is pitching over his head and is due for some regression, but now that everyone has read the same thing, you can't sell high on him. Now you're left with a dilemma. The Atlanta Braves are an above-average offensive team and Kennedy just allowed three home runs in his last start. So do you start him? Allow home field advantage to be your guide, because in this particular case it's a pretty good one. Kennedy's ERA is a run lower at home and his WHIP drops nearly 50 points. And one look through his game log will tell you it's not because he's faced a bunch of cupcakes at home. The Arizona Diamondbacks as a team also hit much better at home, while the Braves struggle on the road. And since Kennedy's facing Kenshin Kawakmi and not a Tommy Hanson, a good performance should net him a win. Maybe afterward you can sell him off.
Aaron Harang isn't a bad option versus the San Francisco Giants, especially if you anticipate Sanchez getting touched up a bit, something that would increase Harang's chances at a win. Harang allows way too many homers but does offer a solid strikeout rate and has a good chance to go three consecutive starts without allowing a home run -- the Giants are 12th in the National League in home runs. He may not be for the faint of heart but hey, spot starting rarely is.

Hitters' count:
J.D. Drew, OF, Boston Red Sox: Justin Masterson makes most left-handed hitters look like batting champs, as they're batting .370 off him, and Drew has been more than competent against righties. That will surely equate to some juicy RBI opportunities with Drew hitting behind the likes of Victor Martinez.
Jonny Gomes, OF, Cincinnati Reds: Another lefty, another recommendation. Gomes has nearly as many extra-base hits against lefties (nine) as he does against righties (10), but he's needed half the at-bats to do so. Jonathan Sanchez has been great, but you don't have Gomes on your roster to bench him against his biggest strength.
Jose Bautista, 3B, Toronto Blue Jays: The odd thing about Bautista's dream season is that he hasn't been all that great against lefties, where the brunt of his offensive contributions came from in previous seasons. But he's been good enough against David Price to warrant a mention, batting .333 with a home run in 12 career at-bats, including a 2 for 6 mark this season.
B.J. Upton, OF, Tampa Bay Rays: The main thing keeping Upton's value alive is a plethora of steals. So it's important to note the opportunities for theft he'll have against Blue Jays catcher John Buck, who has thrown out just six of 30 attempted stealers. There's a good chance Upton nabs another one if he makes it to first base. Shaun Marcum is a tough pitcher to reach base against, but Upton is 2 for 4 with a double off him this season and possesses a career .357 on-base percentage against him, so it's not impossible.
Marlon Byrd, OF, Chicago Cubs: Just as many people were ready to give up on him, Byrd is once again scorching hot, going 10 for 17 (.588) with five doubles in his past four contests. That spells trouble for Randy Wolf, especially considering Byrd's .417 average against southpaws.
Alberto Callaspo, 2B, Kansas City Royals: He's off to an impressive start in June (3 for 21) but just slaps Carl Pavano around, racking up 11 hits in 23 career at-bats. He's hit for plenty of power, too, piling up five extra-base hits, including two home runs.
Pitchers' count:
Raul Ibanez, OF, Philadelphia Phillies: It's surprising that a 38-year-old hitting .230 is still owned in so many leagues, which is probably an ode to the monster season Ibanez had last year. But only this year's stats count, and with Ibanez off to a 2-for-20 start in June, it doesn't look like a rebound is likely. He's awful against Josh Johnson as well, with one hit against four strikeouts in 11 career at-bats.
Jorge Cantu, 1B/3B, Florida Marlins: Not that it's too difficult to find hitters who struggle against Roy Halladay, but Cantu has the worst numbers of anyone else on the Marlins: three hits (all singles) in 20 at-bats.
Luke Scott, OF, Baltimore Orioles: Although Scott still has a lot of power against lefties -- he's hit three home runs in 35 at-bats off them this season -- he definitely doesn't see the ball as well, considering his lifetime average is a good 30 points worse against southpaws than right-handers. A 1-for-7 mark versus CC Sabathia won't get it done, although curiously enough his one hit was a home run.
Michael Bourn, OF, Houston Astros: Not only has Bourn been awful against Aaron Cook in his career, mustering one hit in 10 at-bats, even if he reached base he'd have immense trouble picking up a steal: Miguel Olivo has the second-highest caught-stealing percentage of anyone in the majors with a whopping 55 percent.
Kurt Suzuki, C, Oakland Athletics: For whatever reason, Joe Saunders owns Suzuki: In 24 career at-bats, Suzuki has only a pair of hits to his name, including one home run. He's only struck out one time, so it hasn't been raw dominance, but a .080 batting average speaks for itself.
Baseball Challenge Pick of the Day

Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle Mariners: With at least one hit in 13 of his past 14 games, Lopez appears to be gradually breaking out of his slump. And considering his robust history of success versus C.J. Wilson -- they've faced each other 15 times and Lopez has seven hits and two walks, batting .538 overall -- the stage could be set for a big breakout game, especially when Wilson's recent struggles are factored in.
Triage

Injury list: Out
Casey Blake, 3B, Los Angeles Dodgers (back)
David Freese, 3B, St. Louis Cardinals (ankle; limited to pinch-hitting)
J.J. Hardy, SS, Minnesota Twins (wrist): Hardy may need a stint on the disabled list as his left wrist has flared up again. He isn't swinging a bat but has started taking a new medication.
Orlando Hudson, 2B, Minnesota Twins (wrist; doubtful)
Injury list: Day-to-day
Rajai Davis, OF, Oakland Athletics (hamstring): Davis left Monday's game in the seventh inning due to hamstring tightness, although the severity is not known.
Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue Jays (legs; probable)
Maicer Izturis, 2B/SS/3B, Los Angeles Angels (hamstring; probable)
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta Braves (finger)
Nate McLouth, OF, Atlanta Braves (toe)
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco Giants (elbow)
Justin Morneau, 1B, Minnesota Twins (illness)
Colby Rasmus, OF, St. Louis Cardinals (calf)
Will Venable, OF, San Diego Padres (neck; doubtful)
Weather concerns

Domes will make contests between the Braves-Diamondbacks, Cubs-Brewers and Blue Jays-Rays weatherproof. Numerous East Coast cities have probable forecasts of showers, as Philadelphia, Baltimore, New York and Washington D.C. all have at least a 60 percent chance of storms.

Red Sox: Buchholz has been on a tear since losing to the Yankees on May 8. The right-hander has won each of his last five starts. In his last outing, he dominated the Orioles, giving up five hits and a walk in a shutout victory at Camden Yards. Buchholz fanned just two batters that night, but controlled the game and had 11 runs, giving him way more support than he needed. Buchholz last faced the Indians on October 4, 2009, when he allowed six runs on five hits and two walks in three innings. Buchholz will look to improve upon his performance from that night, when he did not factor into the decision.Indians: Masterson grabbed his first win since Aug. 20, 2009, in his last start against the Chicago White Sox. He struggled with his control, walking six and hitting two more batters, but his only run came off Alexei Ramirez's solo home run. The losing streak had lasted 11 games before he finally got that elusive win. "It felt like Justin took about a 3,000-pound gorilla off his back winning tonight, and it was good for him," Indians manager Manny Acta said. Masterson came up in the Red Sox system, but he has never faced them in his career.

Marlins: When he last faced the Phillies, on May 29, Johnson was on the losing end of Major League history. Roy Halladay tossed the 20th perfect game in MLB history that night at Sun Life Stadium. Johnson gave up one unearned run over seven innings, striking out six in the loss. In his last start, the right-hander beat the Brewers, giving up one run in seven innings with eight strikeouts. Johnson has allowed one earned run in his past 32 innings.Phillies: This will be Halladay's reunion against the team he accomplished history against less than two weeks before, and the Marlins will be under a lot of pressure to get a hit -- any hit -- against the Phillies ace who threw a perfect game vs. them on May 29. Halladay wasn't perfect on Friday, but he earned his eighth win by shutting down San Diego for two runs in seven innings. The Padres hit him well, but Halladay worked out of trouble and bared down when he had to. He gave up three hits and one run in the first inning, and another run in the fifth, but overall had another solid outing to snap Philadelphia's losing skid.

Yankees: Sabathia got back on track and into the winner's column against the Orioles last week, giving up three runs on three hits in seven innings. His only trouble came with the long ball, as he surrendered homers to Adam Jones (solo) and Luke Scott (two-run). He exhibited better control of his slider and changeup throughout the afternoon. Sabathia has started three times against Baltimore already this season and has won all three. In fact, the left-hander's past three wins have all come against the O's. Sabathia has allowed just seven earned runs in 22 2/3 frames against Baltimore this season, and he is 12-1 against them in his career.Orioles: In two outings since being recalled from Triple-A Norfolk, Tillman has pitched well in one start and terribly in the other. He went 5 2/3 innings in his season debut against Toronto, holding the Blue Jays' potent offense to just two runs on six hits while striking out three. But in his last outing Friday against Boston, he finished just 1 1/3 innings before interim manager Juan Samuel pulled the plug. He allowed four runs on five hits with two strikeouts. One of Tillman's 12 starts in 2009 came against the Yankees. He gave up four runs on nine hits while fanning a career-high eight hitters over five innings.

Lincoln is 6-2 with a 3.16 ERA in 11 starts for Triple-A Indianapolis this season. He has a 55-14 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 68 1/3 innings.Nationals: The last thing Lannan was seen throwing was a shaving-cream pie in the face of Stephen Strasburg, during the postgame interviews following Strasburg's debut on Tuesday night. There might be fewer people in the stands and fewer laptops in the press box, but Lannan is the one who will try to give the Nationals their back-to-back wins since May 22-23, when they took two straight Interleague games from the Orioles. After firing eight shutout innings last month in Milwaukee but taking a no-decision, Santana endured a similar fate with seven scoreless last Wednesday in San Diego. Again, he pitched quite well, blanking the Padres despite struggling with command and all but abandoning his spotty changeup. But he threw a season-high 123 pitches and could go only seven innings, opening the door for the bullpen to blow a 1-0 lead. Santana will do everything in his power to avoid a similar fate in his next outing, also against the Padres.

Reds: Harang gave up two runs on eight hits in his last start on Friday in Washington and lasted just four innings on a very warm night. The good news was that he gave up just two runs to keep the Reds close despite working with baserunners on throughout the time. But the Reds were able to stay in the game. He said afterwards that he worked too deep into counts, and that the Washington batters did a nice job of fighting off good pitches. Harang was 4-2 in his previous seven starts, but will hope to get back on track in this start. His good start to the season has helped Cincinnati get off to its quick start this year.

Blue Jays: In spite of the outcome, Marcum was outstanding in the Blue Jays' 7-3 loss to Tampa Bay on Thursday. Due in part to Toronto's shaky bullpen, manager Cito Gaston let Marcum start the ninth with a slim 2-1 lead, and unfortunately, the Rays were able to spoil the right-hander's outing, tacking on an additional three runs. Marcum threw a season-high 112 pitches in the losing effort, and has now eclipsed the 100-pitch plateau in his past 10 starts, pitching past the sixth in all but one of those appearances. The loss also snapped a streak of four straight wins, dropping Marcum's record to 5-2. Marcum will get another crack at the Rays, whom he is 2-1 lifetime with a sparkling 1.67 ERA over 32 1/3 innings. Rays: Price hung in to pitch eight innings on Wednesday against the Blue Jays and he was rewarded with a win as the Rays came from behind in the ninth inning to defeat the Blue Jays. The outing Price's fourth in which he has gone at least six innings without allowing an earned run. The No. 1 pick of the 2007 Draft has shown a lot of improvement in his fastball command, which has made his slider and curve even more effective.

In his three starts since returning to the rotation from bullpen duty, Snell has yet to make it through the sixth inning. His main issue has been aggressiveness, as his inability to attack the strike zone has led to walks (nine compared to four strikeouts) and a rising pitch count that doesn't give him a chance to go deep into games.Rangers: Wilson matched starter Colby Lewis for the most wins on the staff with a 9-6 win over the Rays on Friday. Wilson pitched five-plus innings, giving up five runs on six hits with five strikeouts. It was his first win since May 7 against the Royals. Still, Wilson has left with the bases loaded in each of his last two starts, with four of those runners eventually scoring. He threw 84 pitches and the stadium radar gun showed his fastball was at 90-91 mph.Brewers: The Brewers gave Wolf a choice: Start Wednesday on regular rest, or take an extra day, something all Brewers starters have been doing when the team encounters a day off. Wolf opted against the extra rest, thinking he would be more sharp on a set schedule, so he'll pitch Game 2 of a series between the Brewers and Cubs. Davies lacked control against the Angels as he walked two with no strikeouts. This will be Davies' first start against the Twins at Target Field. Davies is 4-5 with a 4.80 ERA in nine career starts against the Twins.Twins: Pavano's losing record is deceiving to the way he has been pitching this season. He has given up only 33 earned runs in his 11 starts, but the Twins have been unable to produce enough run support in those starts. However, Pavano did struggle in his last outing against Seattle. He gave up four runs on eight hits and walked two batters -- only the third time this season he walked more than one batter. He continued to prove he is the Twins' deep man, lasting seven innings, something that has been a tough spot for the starting rotation this season for Minnesota. His strikeout rate is low, at about 4.5 batters per nine innings, but he has struck out twice as many (36) as he has walked (18). The D-backs roughed Kawakami up on May 14, knocking him out after 4 1/3 innings and three runs allowed. Oddly enough, he struck out a season-high seven in that game.D-backs: Kennedy has notched quality starts in six of his past seven starts, but the latest effort wasn't exactly "quality." On Friday against the Colorado Rockies, the D-backs' No. 3 starter yielded six runs on five hits over six frames. While he wasn't helped by a teammate's crucial fielding error -- hence the three unearned runs -- Kennedy did allow three Rockies home runs, the last of which put Arizona in a 6-3 hole. Kennedy admitted after the game that he missed location with his fastball at times. Because his changeup is such an integral part of his repertoire, command of the fastball is a significant indicator of Kennedy's success. He will have the opportunity to get back on track against the Atlanta Braves. In his lone career start against Atlanta on May 14, Kennedy allowed three runs (all earned) on seven hits over 6 1/3 frames; he struck out five but didn't factor into his team's decision.

Buchholz not focusing on strikeouts: The Boston Globe reports that Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz isn't worried about his dwindling strikeout totals over his last eight starts. “I think in the minor leagues, hitters, they go out of the strike zone a lot more," Buchholz said. “I had a lot of strikeouts, but probably over half the strikeouts I’ve had were pitches out of the zone. Guys up here don’t swing, even with two strikes. They tend to make you throw a pitch in the dirt. You throw pitches in the zone, they’re going to get hit. I don’t think I’ve done anything different. I’ve always been told to take a three-pitch at-bat or a two-pitch at-bat, a one-pitch at-bat over a five- or six-pitch strikeout."
(Updated 06/09/2010).

Buchholz has traded strikeouts for scoreless innings lately, as he comes into Wednesday night's start against the Indians with an 18-inning shutout streak on the line. He's also 5-0 with a 0.99 ERA in his last five starts

Masteron breaks through with a win: Indians SP Justin Masterson broke his 17 straight winless starts streak on Friday against the White Sox. His last win was against the Angles back on August 20. "I knew it was getting up there. I knew it had been a while. But overall, I didn't feel I pitched terribly, so I didn't think about how long it was. I kept thinking I was on the right track, and that helped me stay in a good place." He allowed one run on five hits in 5 2/3 innings. The lone run was the result of a Alexei Ramirez in the fourth inning. Masterson improved to 1-5 on the season. Manager Manny Acta said Masterson got a "3,000-pound gorilla off his back."
(Updated 06/05/2010).

Well it wasn't pretty but he finally got a win. Still though Masterson has struggled this year. He has only pitched seven or more innings once this year and is still allowing too many baserunners. Friday it wasn't so much the hits but the walks. It will be interesting to see if this victory can propel Masterson into some kind of hot streak

Johnson scoreless inning streak ends: Marlins SP Josh Johnson pitching seven strong innings on Thursday night, allowing one run off seven hits in a 3-2 win over the Brewers. Johnson, the tough-luck loser in his last start when Philadelphia's Roy Halladay pitched a perfect game, finally allowed an earned run, ending his streak at 31 1/3 innings spanning parts of five starts. The 6-foot-7 right-hander allowed a sac fly to Rickie Weeks in the seventh inning to break the streak. "He's been real good," Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "To get through that lineup only giving up one run, he did a hell of a job." He issued three walks while striking out eight and threw 75 of his 115 pitches for strikes.
(Updated 06/03/2010).

Johnson is 3-1 in his last five starts with the lone loss coming in the Hallday perfect game. He now has 77 strikeouts in 77 innings pitched and remains a must-start Fantasy SP with his 2.10 ERA. His next start is scheduled for Wednesday against the Phillies. In 12 appearances (10 starts) against Philadelphia in his career, Johnson is 4-3 with a 3.77 ERA

Halladay not perfect but still good: Phillies SP Roy Halladay avoided the perfect game hangover as he picked up the win against the Padres on Friday night. He allowed a first inning single to Chase Headley, which drew groans from the crowd and quickly dashed any hopes for another perfect game. "I would love to have let them know I wasn't going to do it again," Halladay said with a laugh. "It was pretty cool. That's why it's great to play in a city like this. The fans are second to none." He allowed two runs on 10 hits in seven innings of work. Halladay surrendered one walk and struck out seven while improving to 8-3 on the year.
(Updated 06/05/2010).

Two starts ago everyone was worried what was wrong with Halladay. Well those concerns have been put to rest rather quickly. Halladay is back to his old self mowing down hitters, eating up innings and picking up wins. He now has 77 strikeouts with only 13 walks and has an ERA of 2.03. He remains an elite Fantasy option. His next start is scheduled for Wednesday against the Marlins. Halladay, as many of you Fantasy owners know, has done pretty well against the Marlins this year. He has allowed just two runs in 17 innings against Florida.

Sabathia wins first in a month: Yankees SP CC Sabathia (5-3) bounced back from a disappointing outing against the Indians over the weekend to hold the Orioles to three runs on three hits over seven innings on Thursday afternoon in 6-3 win. Sabathia struck out seven and walked one to pick up his first victory in exactly a month.
(Updated 06/03/2010).

Two of the three hits given up by Sabathia on Thursday were home runs, but the big man and his owners will be glad to see him looking more like himself than he did on Saturday against a poor Indians squad. In Fantasy Week 10 (June 7-13), Sabathia will face the Orioles again.

Short night for Tillman Friday: Orioles SP Chris Tillman was chased during the second inning of Friday's game against the Red Sox. After allowing three earned runs in the first frame, he gave up one more in the second before being yanked with two on and one out. Reliever Mark Hendrickson retired the next two batters, leaving Tillman responsible for four earned runs. Tillman gave up five hits and two walks in 1 1/3 innings, striking out two.
(Updated 06/04/2010).

Friday's performance was a stark contrast from his 2010 debut on Saturday, during which he yielded two runs in 5 2/3 innings. He's a youngster with plenty of potential who should be given an opportunity with the Orioles going nowhere this season, but until he shows some consistency he's a risky Fantasy play outside of AL-only formats. His next start is scheduled for Thursday at home against New York. He's 1-0 with a 7.20 ERA in his career against the Yankees.

Sanchez dominates Pirates again: Giants SP Jonathan O. Sanchez pitched 6 1/3 innings on Friday, allowing no earned runs off five hits against the Pirates. Four runs crossed the plate for Pittsburgh, but all of them were a result of a Buster Posey's two-base error on a grounder and Andrew McCutchen's two-run double in the second. The left-hander settled down and pitched shutout ball until being lifted with one out in the seventh. Sanchez has beaten the Pirates twice in two starts this season, not allowing an earned run in 14 1/3 innings. He also struck out five and walked two while earning his fourth win of the year.
(Updated 06/05/2010).

Sanchez pitched very well on Friday night and the error was the only thing that allowed the Pirates to score. He has not allowed more than four earned runs in any of his starts this season and remains a solid mixed league option for his 2.63 ERA and 68 strikeouts. His next starts is scheduled for Wednesday against the Reds. Sanchez is 2-0 with a 1.32 ERA in two career starts against Cincinnati.

Short outing for Harang in ND: Reds SP Aaron Harang lasted just four innings on Friday night, allowing two runs off eight hits against the Nationals. The right-hander labored throwing 98 pitches and only allowed RBI singles in the second and third. He also struck out four and walked one while earning the no-decision.
(Updated 06/04/2010).

A high pitch count did Harang in on Friday night as he matched his shortest outing of the year. The only difference is he allowed eight runs in his other four-inning performance. He is 2-0 in his last four starts and remains a low-end Fantasy option in mixed leagues. His next start is scheduled for Wednesday against the Giants. Harang is 4-6 with a 3.62 ERA in 12 career starts against San Fran.

Marcum's win streak over: Blue Jays SP Shaun Marcum lost for the first time since April 16 during Wednesday's defeat by the Rays. He pitched 8 1/3 innings, allowing four earned runs on 10 hits, striking out a pair of batters. Marcum, who had won his last five decisions, fell to 5-2 on the season.
(Updated 06/02/2010).

Prior to Wednesday's outing, Marcum hadn't given up more than three runs since April 16. His numbers are solid on the season -- 2.77 ERA, 62 strikeouts, 1.05 WHIP -- and he remains a must-start Fantasy option. He will make two starts in Fantasy Week 10 (June 7-13), his next coming Tuesday at Tampa Bay. He's now 2-1 with a 1.67 ERA in his career against the Rays.

Six wins in seven decisions for Price: Rays SP David Price was picked up by his teammates' bats on Wednesday, enabling him to earn his eighth win of the season. He allowed a pair of unearned runs in the first and second innings, giving Toronto a 2-0 lead. The score was 2-1 until the top of the ninth, when Tampa Bay scored six runs to take a lead they would not relinquish and get Price off the hook. In eight innings, he scattered nine hits while striking out three. Price is 6-1 in his last eight starts.
(Updated 06/02/2010).

Price just keeps on rolling. He's recorded a quality start in nine of his 10 outings, only once this season allowing more than three earned runs. He's not striking out a ton of batters, but he's pitching well enough to be a must-start Fantasy option at SP. His next start is scheduled for Wednesday at home against Toronto. He's now 4-0 with a 2.20 ERA in his career against the Blue Jays.

Latos ready for another challenge: Padres SP Mat Latos will have another tough test when he makes his next start. After going up against Roy Halladay last Friday, the 22-year-old will face another former Cy Young Award winner Johan Santana on Wednesday. "Halladay's a great guy, a great pitcher," Latos said. "As far as going against Johan Santana, that doesn't really matter to me. I don't really look at like going against Johan Santana, I look at it as going against a team with nine guys, starting with Jose Reyes."
(Updated 06/09/2010).

Latos has pitched very well despite not getting a whole lot of run support. His teammates have managed only 38 runs in his 11 starts, and he has won two 1-0 decisions. Latos has 56 strikeouts in 66 1/3 innings this season. He remains a viable Fantasy option in all formats at this point. His is scheduled to make his next start on Wednesday against the Mets. He is 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA against the Metropolitans in his career

Santana misses out on another victory: Mets SP Johan Santana pitched seven shutout innings on Wednesday yet once again failed to earn a win. He gave up five hits and five walks, striking out three batters. But the Padres scored a run in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie it at 1-1, eliminating Santana from the decision before winning it in the 11th. Santana has pitched 15 scoreless innings over his last two outings, winning neither.
(Updated 06/03/2010).

Santana has been brilliant over his last four starts, allowing three runs in 29 2/3 innings. However, thanks to his offense and bullpen, he's just 1-0 during that stretch. That's tough luck, but continue to start him in any and every Fantasy format. His next start is scheduled for Wednesday at home against San Diego. He's 2-2 with a 2.41 ERA in his career against the Padres.

Snell talks with manager: Mariners SP Ian Snell met with manager Don Wakamatsu on Saturday after he was publicly criticized for his "slow" pace in his start on Friday night, according to MLB.com. "We're good," Snell said. "It's a love-hate relationship sometimes in baseball and it [stinks] that it has to be like that. But he's a good person and good manager. I didn't mean for anything to come out the wrong way. I was just competitive." Snell left after just 5 1/3 innings but felt he could go longer. "I didn't want to come out [of the game]. I wanted to stay in and finish the game or try to finish the sixth inning. It's over with. It's behind us. We're moving forward."
(Updated 06/05/2010).

Snell did not sound happy after Wakamatsu questioned his tempo on Friday night. "I have no comment on what he says," Snell said. "He can say whatever he wants because he's the manager, but I am going to leave it at that. I have pretty much nothing else to say about my tempo. I am working on it, trying my best. That's all I can do. I am not Superman." Snell is 0-4 with a 4.64 ERA in 10 appearances (seven starts) this season and should be viewed as an AL-only option for his upcoming start against Texas on Wednesday.

Wilson bounces back for Rangers: Rangers SP C.J. Wilson recorded a win during Friday's game against the Rays, his first win in his last five starts. He pitched five innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits and four walks, striking out five. In his previous three outings, Wilson gave up four home runs and 17 earned runs.
(Updated 06/04/2010).

Wilson was really in a rut there. Hopefully Friday is an indication he's dug himself out of it, and is ready to once again perform like the pitcher who was 3-1 with a 1.48 ERA after his first seven starts. For now, he appears to be a safe bet to use in mixed Fantasy formats. His next start is scheduled for Wednesday at home against Seattle. He's 5-2 with a 5.01 ERA in his career against the Mariners.
