For an excellent IMHO Pie I would have no problem driving 50 miles assuming the road was at least decent and the weather at least fair. I love pizza and miss it badly here in Costa Rica where pizza is lame at best. When I was living on Cape Cod in 2006 there was a spot only 15 minutes from my house that I would visit and take one out at least weekly.

I had a real authentic circular pizza stone that I would preheat in my oven to warm up the pie that was rapidly losing it's heat pizza during the drive home. The stone when hoy would reheat the bottom and the oven on broil would quickly restore the pizza to like it was wen it first came out of the oven at the pizzeria.

Here in CR we have Pizza Hut, Dominoes, and some lessor know chains (keyword chains) they all stink for me at least.

id drive an hour if needed. and like wilheim said here in cr pizza is pretty shitty. smoke a fat 1 on the drive up to get the appetite right and eat in the place with a pitcher of beer than get 1 to take home also.

Funny this question came up but we usually get pizza delivered every sat. night, most recently from Domino's since they changed how they make it. I have grown tired of it & drove about 6 miles to a place that does not deliver that i used to go to about 5 yrs ago & got a pizza from them with the oven on so when i got home i stuck it in for about 5,6 mins & it was delicious. FWIW the best pizza i ever ate was in chicago back in the 60's at a place called HOME RUN INN, they sell it in krogers now but not the same as in the pizza place.

Drive? Shit, I'd get on a plane! Everyone needs to make it to Champaign, IL one time in their life for an Illini basketball game and Papa Del's Pizza. There can't possibly be a better pizza anywhere in the world.

I am not a real big pizza guy myself, maybe because I never really have good Pizza too often. One time I was up in Indiana, not exactly sure where, maybe 20-30 mins from Louisville Kentucky. There was a little pizza place out in the middle of nowhere ,I forgot the name of the place but it may have just been the best pizza that Ive ever had in my life.

I know where one is and since my wife has been bugging me to take her out I will take her to il'pomodoro soon and give it a try.

There is one place I like but it is in Quepos called La Scalafrio (spelling may be wrong). They serve those individual pizzas and the La Margarita (tomato pizza) is excellent. I am not big on a lot of toppings these days and stay away from any meat whenever possible. I actually will order just plain cheese if I know the pizza isin't the greatest in the place I am ordering from.

For the money for kids expecially you can't beat the 2 for 1 delivery pizza. On rare occacions I will have two delivered one for my wife and daughter who are liable to order pineapple and that kind of stuff on their pizza while I get the Vegetarian special. Better than a peanut and jelly is about all I can say.

Growing up in an Italien neighborhood in Boston spoiled me for thin crust brick oven baked pizzs. Sorry Chicago people, I know you love your deep dish pizza but I am not a fan of the Chicago style pizza. I am sure it is good if not great in places but you have to like all that dough and crust.

Give me the New York style thin crust pizza anytime. I used to make my own when I had the pizza stone I mentioned above and while a lot of work it was a treat if I managed to bake the pizza at the right temperature. I wish I could find an authentic pizza stone here in Costa Rica.

Thanks, wil:toast:

I'd kill to get a Jersey pizza right now. Was at Joe's Pizza in Maplewood last October. 4 places I stop when I get back to Jersey. Joe's Pizza, White Castle, Jimmy Buff's Italian hot dogs, and Vic's Pizza down the Jersey shore.

i think u may like il'pomodoro then.... pasta is not thick, instead it is crust brick all the way, plus they make real good sauce there, they actually have garlic in there... lol... 2x1 is absolutely the worst pizza joint here.... but yeah in areas like quepos, tamarindo, guanacaste u have a good shot of finding a good pizza... a lot of foreigners and different styles from allk over the world i guess
