ASHBURN, Va. (AP)

Disgruntled defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth says he will skip the Washington Redskins mandatory minicamp.

Haynesworth released a statement through Comcast SportsNet late Tuesday stating that he will "continue to work individually to prepare for training camp and the start of the 2010 season.''

Haynesworth is unhappy that the Redskins are switching to a 3-4 defensive scheme under a new coaching staff. He has not participated in any of the team's voluntary offseason workouts or practices.

The minicamp that starts Wednesday is the only offseason activity the Redskins can require him to attend. He will likely be fined for not showing up.
Haynesworth signed a seven-year, $100 million contract with the Redskins last year.

Wonder what he would be doing to make a living if he didn't play football.

He should be dropped in a refugee camp somewhere in the world to see how other people live.

What a whiny little shit. How is he going to learn the 3-4 if he doesn't show up to sessions WHERE HE'D LEARN THE 3-4. Ooof.

It's not like they're going to change schemes now. Moron. (even though it is true that his talents would be mostly wasted in a 3-4 instead of a 4-3)

He doesn't want to be a nose tackle, that will fuck with his stats from that viewpt. I agree with him but it is a team sport so I would do what it took to win!

I'd eat fruit loops out of London Fletchers jock while he's wearing it for that kinda jack

What's really funny is neither you, nor he, will be taking on two lineman and stuffing the run enough to be worth the money. Though for Haynesworth he was so close to being that good before pissing it away. Maybe he'll change by August. . .

They should have made this "mandatory" mini-camp something everyone needed to attend and list it in everyone's contract. Otherwise, you're going to get ingrates like this that refuse to show up.

I've held a consistent belief that you should never give millions of dollars to a guy who's position is 100% dependent on their motivation. Especially when there is great potential for them to be lazy.
