Im being told in the USA most people wear their shoes in the house?

would you normally take your shoes off before going into somebody's house.

I was brought up, that you take your Shoes off.....But I don't see much of that anymore.....Not in My House, not in any of my friends house either.

Now of course, if you have Mud on your shoes.....That's a Different story.

It's more of an oriental thing. When I get inside my house, I automatically take off my shoes. Years ago, I was going with a Hawaiian lady and you had to take off your shoes before you ever walked into her house.

Up here in Canada most people take their shoes off and usually guests are expected too as well. Of course it might be different if you have a dinner party and everyone is dressed up, people would not be expected then.

Honestly, im suprised you yanks wear your shoes in the house....

what about all the dirt, dog shit, and other stuff that you might be tracking insude?

Same here. I still do whenever I go to someone's house, or at least ask them if they want me to take them off. On a side note, nobody does this when they come over to my place (not even my mother, who would kick my ass if I ever wear them in her house)!!!

The USA is a melting pot of cultures. I have many friends of Asian descent and almost all of them take their shoes off when entering my home. Those of European descent do not. South American and African descent seems to vary from person to person. Appears to be definitely related to cultural background in some manner.

I grew up on a farm and we always took our shoes off. Now after living in the city for 40 years I never do it.

Well, I'm used to taking my shoes off. It's the same with most of my friends, but also know a couple of guys who keep their shoes on...so I guess it's rather random over here, although I'd claim, that the no. who is taking off their shoes grew over the last couple of years.

I even have a note posted on my door to please remove shoes. Expensive hardwood and tile here and shoes are just plain dirty

i do in my house but not in any of my friends houses, and i tell them to take them off when they get through the door. i also happen to be of european decent in response to the post above, so i guess it has more to do with how your raised

If it's your first time entering someone else's house & they take off their shoes in front of you, or you see they don't have any on inside and their shoes are sitting outside the door, that is all you need to know.......lol

Taking off your shoes to try and protect a floor has always seemed awfully prissy to me.

Come up with some invention to be able to somehow walk in a house, place your feet (with shoes on) in like some type of device that will clean the bottom of your shoes completely. Then you have no worries.
