I will be retiring soon and looking to relocate as close to Las Vegas as possible. Since I
hate the hot weather and enjoy cold and snowy weather, I'm looking for a cold weather atmosphere that is less than a 5 hour drive from Vegas to move to.

I would make it the San Diego area. You're right near the beach most of the time living in 70 degree weather year round. The mountains and snow are within a 2-2.5 hour drive. Vegas is no more than a 5 hour drive with stops, or a normal 4 hour drive doing 75 mph without stops. Take a plane and you're their within one hour. You just can't get a better situation.

I thought you said within a 5 hour drive.? Then live in Monmouth, CA, and you can drive there within 2.5 hours and be with the snow most of the time. At least from October-June.

Judge,

Tahoe would be a great place to retire...however, it can be a bit expensive. The area near Lake Tahoe, on the Nevada side, of Carson City would be a great alternative. You are only a few miles from the lake and the cost of living is much less. In addition, Reno is nearby. I've considered this area for when I get to those years....

Oh, and there are plenty of sports books in Tahoe. The south shore has the "big" casinos (Harrah's, Monte Bleu, Harvey's and a few others) and the north shore has a few small ones (Cal Neva, Biltmore, Crystal Bay).

There are also a bunch in the Reno area....

You meant Mammouth, CA instead of Monmouth, correct

Reno/Tahoe is where I want to live out the end.

What you are looking for sounds simple as far as cost of living just Google the Sierra Mountains as many a town with cold climate and drive to Reno/Tahoe

Reno may be a dump but you give a property some action you are comped for life.

One of my best friends folks retired in Reno have a nice home up towards Mt Rose and is a VIP at Peppermill.

When we come to visit he is all excited and we never pay for a meal as his player card does it all.

Sorry but unless you are using an helicoptor, Mammouth Lakes is more like a 5 hour drive.

Do you know what Cedar City, Utah is like?

Yes, as I go fishing nearby almost once a Month in nearby areas. Cedar City is right off the I 15 about 3 hours from Las Vegas and far closer to the Sports books that are in Mesquite, Nevada about 90 miles away.
There is great skiing at Cedar Breaks which is only about 20 miles away and I love to go fishing at Panquitch Lake which is about 45 minutes away. You must remember that this is Utah and most of the citizens are Mormon so lots of weird laws etc regarding drinking etc.
