He had to do it before some baby camp where it would've been a distraction....

99% confirmed guys

we will see
Lebron
Wade
Bosh
Ray Allen
and Amare all on the same team

they are looking to also pick up Joe Johnson at the league minimum if he wants to be 6th man of the year....and they will pick up PP as a free agent midseason when no one signs him.

Oh yeah, the teams are between Miami and Cleveland....I hear on the 4th of July (live on TNT), they will put chips (like lottery balls) in a bag and select which of the two teams they will all sign for.

too bad they couldn't get dirk

That will be one hell of a team. I hope it's Miami. Wade can't leave Miami.

fwiw, lebron on a mega dream team might mean more money because of endorsements.....so it is technically a possibility.....but I don't think his ego would let his teammates make more than him....EVERYONE would have to settle for less in order for a dream team to work

and as stated in my post above.....jajajaja

Pierce: The Heat are the favorites . . . on paper

Back in 2008, Danny Ainge pulled off what many believed was a modern day NBA miracle.

With one superstar in the fold (Paul Pierce), Ainge managed to add not one, but two other uber-level talents (Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett) to the mix to form a three-headed beast that took the league by storm.

Fast forward to today, where another triumvirate has been formed in Miami that's just as talented as - but younger than - the '08 trio has been hatched with Dwyane Wade convincing Chris Bosh and two-time league MVP LeBron James to join forces in Miami.

"Me, Kevin and Ray started it off and you're going to starting seeing more of this, forming these powerhouse teams," said Pierce, who spoke with the media via teleconference on Thursday after signing his four-year, $61 million deal with the Celtics. "This is the beginning of a new era."

And Pierce could have been a part of another team's new era this summer when he decided to opt out of his contract and become an unrestricted free agent.

But as he revealed on Thursday, his intentions were always to re-sign with the only team he's ever played for.

"I never thought once about leaving the Celtics," he said.

Pierce was due to make $21.5 million this upcoming season, but instead will earn about $6 million less. This will not only help the C's bottom line, but also give them some additional flexibility to go after players and not have to incur as much of a luxury tax hit as they would have if Pierce didn't restructure his deal.

In addition, his return all but insures the 33-year-old in October, will finish his career as a Celtic - something he had talked about wanting to do throughout this past season.

"I thought it was a win-win situation," he said.

And while Pierce will certainly be in position to continue his climb up the Celtics' all-time leaders board, his return has little to do with finishing his career as one of the greatest Celtics statistically.

If there's one thing Pierce has learned as a Celtic, it's that the road to individual greatness doesn't carry much weight around Boston if there aren't championships - that's plural, not singular - awaiting at the end of the journey.

"I don't even chase those type of records," Pierce said. "I'd be more satisfied with championships."

That's why even now, nearly a month after the C's Game Seven loss to the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals, Pierce hasn't completely shaken the pain and disappointment of what would have been the C's second NBA title in the last three years.

It's even worst for Pierce who is a Los Angeles native who lives there in the offseason.

"It's difficult," he said. "That's one of the hardest losses I've taken in my career. I pretty much think about it every day."

But rather than mope about it, Pierce said it only motivates him more heading into this season where he anticipates the new-and-improved Miami Heat will be the favorites to win it all, along with two-time champ Los Angeles Lakers.

That's Pierce's prediction, not the media.

"On paper, I'd view them [Miami] as the favorites . . . along with the Lakers," Pierce said.

By no means does that mean the C's plan to take a back seat.

In fact, it's similar to where they were at the start of last season when the Orlando Magic were everybody's odds-on favorite to advance out of the East.

"At the end of the day, you have to play the game," Pierce said.

But who will Pierce play with?

The starting group is relatively intact, but Boston has to bolster a bench that's already going to be without at least one key cog from last year, Tony Allen.

Allen, who spent his first six seasons with the Celtics, signed a three-year, $10 million deal with the Memphis Grizzlies.

"That was a tough one for me," Pierce said of seeing Allen go to another team. "Tony's a good friend of mine, but he's one of the most unpredictable people to be around."

Allen's departure is just one of the many changes Boston's second unit will have to address in the coming months.

"It was a great move picking up Jermaine [O'Neal], giving us an inside presence in case Rasheed [Wallace] retires, but sometimes I'm looking at all the players signing and wish we'd get on the ball a little bit. But I trust in Danny [Ainge, Boston's president of basketball operations] to put a good team around us."
