Andrew Garfield to play Peter Parker in 'Spider-Man' reboot
The actor beat out a number of Hollywood's most talented young actors for the coveted role

Andrew Garfield has been cast as Peter Parker in Sony's "Spider-Man" reboot, the studio announced via press release on Thursday.
Sony managed to keep secret one of the most sought-after scoops in Hollywood history.
Garfield only learned late this afternoon that he's been chosen to play Peter Parker.

He was just presented to the international press in Cancun, Mexico who had gathered to see previews of Sony's upcoming movies, a spokesman from Sony told TheWrap.

Garfield happened to be at the event promoting Sony's big-budget thriller "The Social Network," in which he plays Facebook co-founded Eduardo Saverin.
He was told that he got the part and then immediately went out to be introduced a the new Spider-Man to a room filled with journalists from around the world.
Marc Webb directs the film from a script by Jamie Vanderbilt. Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin produce.

On selecting Garfield, director Marc Webb said, "Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor's work understand his extraordinary talents. He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker."

They rushed the first Spiderman trilogy.

The third one was a mess. You can't come back from that.

They are also rebooting X-men with primarily a British cast. It's pretty disgusting Hollywood is going down this route but people keep giving the studios their money.

If felt really awkward seeing the incredible hulk re-done, and I'm sure when I hear Cyclops go, "chip cheerio mate," I'll just laugh.

It's nothing but remakes and reboots.

They're gonna really bore people with super hero movies. Whatever happened to original ideas?

as long as Maguire didnt want to do it, doesnt really matter who plays him......i dont his nationality has anything to do with it.....now if they had booted Toby, and he wanted to do the movie, that would be different, cuz he IS spiderman right now......very successful 3 movie run, made tons of money

bucsfan, they are doing a reboot. They're starting over so it wouldn't have made sense to go with Toby.

Even the director is different.

Yeah you can trace all this reboot shit to one thing and that was basically the success that came from the Batman reboot. Everyone is trying to capture that lighting in a bottle. The Dark Knight is & will be one of the best superhero movies of all time.

They are making Antman the movie.

Who even cares about Antman. They are scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I'm still waiting for a decent Superman movie. They need to reboot that franchise. That last one was real bad.

It's all about the directors. Franchises are getting screwed up with replacements who dont have a clue on what they're doing with the comics. Raimi is also very over-rated; success with a horror comedy franchise doesn't really mean he'll deliver with comics.
