Considering the match was for the right to play in the semi finals of the World Cup and no African country has ever played in the semis before?

Nine of ten put that in the goal right?

Penalty kicks are not as easy as they look. I wouldn't say they are difficult though.

The announcer on ESPN said it was one of the worst exits in World Cup history.

And I think that announcer has been broadcasting the WC since the 60's so he should know.

The shootout produced 6 out of 9 goals, so its not a given as much as people think...

Too much pressure. In World Cup history all time greats have missed: Platini, Baggio, Lampard, etc.

Brazil also fucked up vs Holland quite badly.

Two of their players collide and fail to hit the ball as it goes by them both
    into the open net.

Numerous missed scoring chances. Very few for their opponents.

The same guy that collided with his own goalie gets kicked out of the game
with his team down a goal.

All that adds up to a choke job by a team that was a clear favorite to win.

absolutely. Forget Bill Bucker. This is the new Bill Buckner of sports.

If the goalie stops it, we forgive him. But he his the damn bar. Nearly sent it completely over.

In that case you should make Roberto Baggio your new no.1 sports idiot. Final penalty shot during the penalty shoootout in the world cup final back in 1994...didn't even hit the cross-bar.
