I figure that He had no chance but lately I'm beginning to wonder. This guy is 38 years old and He's 10-2 this year. Being a finesse type lefty helps his cause and of course playing for the powerhouse Yankees doesn't hurt his chances. Today's win gives him 239. If He keeps taking in 10 Million a year with Yankees, He might be pitching into his 40's.

I think Andy is getting ready to hang em up. I think he's been close....who knows, could become a Brett Favre. No reason to hang em up when you are still pitching effectively. Favre had his best season ever last year in Minny.

For some reason guys have had AP retiring since he was about 33. I don't know why. He's like 100 games over .500 career. HOF type if not for roids, could get 300.

AP did 'roids to help recover from injury, that is for the most part a proven fact, he didn't use 'roids to help his performance, he did them the way they should be used.
He never abused 'roids.
That's why he pretty much gets a pass on the steroid issue.

Don't see him pitching like this for another four years, which is what it would take

Even without the drugs, he is behind Mussina, Schilling and even Kevin Brown

If only the won-loss record wasn't tied so strongly to his teammates. For a pitcher better than most people think, I'll put Roy Oswalt ahead of him

Tom ! Wake up ! For a person that sometimes seems so smart... You sometimes just seem to have a brain fart ! Roy Oswald is about 100 games behind Pettite in wins with only 142 ! Pettite may be in the conversation for HOF someday if He gets to or even close to 300. Nobody is talking about a 142 game winner Oswald being in HOF. Pettite also has been pretty awesome in the postseason which is more than I can say for most of the other pitchers you mentioned.

Just as Petite is a good pitcher despite being three to five years away form reaching the Hall-of-Fame standards, never being mentioned for the Hall-of-Fame doesn't exclude Oswalt from being a good pitcher, too

Petite had much better run support, 5.5 runs per game compared to 4.8. If that were reversed, the won-loss records would look far different without being any different as pitchers. Even in the NL with no DH, adjust the ERAs against league average and it really isn't very close

The big difference is obviously the nearly 200 more starts and because of that Petite has so far had the better career. But if that gap starts to close soon there is a good chance Oswalt will finish ahead

your comments are ridiculous....andy pettite is moons further in his career than oswalt...has nothing to do with run support...

The Yankees are operating under the assumption that Andy Pettitte is going to retire from the game of baseball.

Pettitte has yet to make anything official, but Yanks GM Brian Cashman did not sound optimistic when speaking with reporters Monday at baseball's Winter Meetings. "He told me personally (at the end of the season) he was leaning toward retirement," Cashman said. "He's not officially retired. I talked to his agent about it maybe a week to 10 days ago. That position hadn't changed." Pettitte, 38, went 11-3 with a 3.28 ERA in 21 starts this year.
