Philadelphia Phillies

  • The Phillies snapped their three-game losing streak with a 12-4 win over the Pirates at PNC Park. Philadelphia currently stands at 1-2 this month after going 20-7 in July in 2009.
  • Philadelphia has won six consecutive July 4th games with their last loss coming in 2003. They are 4-0 in their last four road games on Independence Day. Over the last 19 years, the club is 15-4 and have averaged 5.4 runs per game.
  • The club is 13-7 against NL Central teams this season, including sweeps of Milwaukee and Houston on the road.
  • End a seven-game road trip this afternoon, as they are hitting .262 with seven home runs and 29 runs scored in six games.
  • So far this season, the Phillies starting rotation has gone at least seven innings in 37 starts, the highest total among all NL clubs.
  • SP Joe Blanton has tossed a season-high 7.2 innings in back-to-back starts. He is 2-0 with a 3.80 ERA over his last three starts after going 1-5 with a 7.28 ERA over his first eight starts.

Cincinnati Reds

  • Today is the fifth (3-1) in a stretch of five consecutive day games, the Reds' longest since a five-game stretch from 4/8-4/13/2006.
  • Cincinnati is playing Game 4 (2-1) of a four-game series versus the Cubs and the fourth game of the Reds' longest road trip of the season.
  • For the third straight day the Reds lead the second-place Cardinals by 1.5 games in the NL Central. The Reds are in first place this late in the season for the first time since the final week of the 1999 campaign.
  • 1B Joey Votto has reached base safely in each of his last 41 games, a career high and the longest on-base streak in the Major Leagues this season.
  • In the previous 16 seasons since the National League was divided into three divisions, 12 times one of the teams leading the Central on July 1 won that division.
  • SP Mike Leake was 5-0 with a 2.22 ERA in his first 12 starts, but has fallen off with a 0-1 mark and 6.85 ERA in his last four starts. He leads the pitching staff with 11 quality starts in 15 appearances.
  • Leake faced the Cubs in his MLB debut and is 1-0 with a 2.63 ERA in two career starts against them. This will be his first start at Wrigley Field.

Oakland Athletics

  • Oakland has won two of three and six of the last eight games after going 2-10 over the previous 12 contests. They are in third place in the AL West, trailing Texas by nine games.
  • The Athletics are 22-18 all-time in games played on July 4th. Oakland has played Cleveland three times on the 4th, all in Cleveland. They bet the Tribe, 4-2, in 1988, but lost 8-1 in 1992 and 5-2 last season.

  • Starting pitchers are 5-0 with a 2.28 ERA and a .210 opponents batting average over the last eight games.
  • SP Vin Mazzaro is scheduled to make his seventh start of the season, with the team going 3-3 in his previous six starts. He is 2-2 with a 4.22 ERA in six starts and 1-0 with a 4.35 ERA in three relief appearances.

Boston Red Sox

  • Boston concludes a six-day, five-game homestand with the last of three games against the Baltimore Orioles.

Colorado Rockies

  • Colorado concludes this four-game series with the Giants, as this is the fourth game of a current 11-day, 10-game homestand that will take the Rockies to the All-Star break.
