Almost every year the amount of hot dogs consumed goes up. However I think there is some value in under 68.5 this year. I honestly believe the ceiling has almost been hit with very little room for a higher total. Chestnut says in training he has had totals between 69-72 but it seemed like these were the high marks. This suggests there is really only room for 2-4 more hot dogs over the current record of 68 (set last year).

So basically Chestnut will have to be at his best which includes dealing with 30+ degree heat to surpass the mark of 68 set last year.

Without Kobe, Chestnut will not be tested, no need to cram 'em down this year.
HPark is correct, under has great value.

No one thinks he will attempt to break his record based solely on personal pride?? I would think that him slowing down would be worse for his name than doing his best...if he eats more = more money in contracts for him...right??

Kobayashi is apparently there but will not budge on his stance with MLE and their restrictive contract. Says he will waive the appearance fee and participate for free as long as he doesn't have to sign a contract. It will be ridiculous if he doesn't participate but its looking more like he won't at the moment.

For those with accounts at 5d I also like some individual totals;

Booker o31.5 -170 - Booker has stated his goal of eating over 40 and did eat 38 in the qualifier. Even with the heat (not even sure how much a factor this is, assume it has to play some role...) he should be able to get into the 30's.

Conti U26.5 -120 - Conti needed three attempts to qualify for this competition. Eating 16.5, 23 and 25 in the three contests. And the 25 was highly contentious as it appeared he was spitting out some buns as he went along. Has never eaten more then 25 hot dogs. Also the weather issue in play.

:103631605 someone started a thread on this.

I agree & also have under 68 1/2. No Kobayashi to push Chestnut.
