I am an avid bowler and bowl in many leagues. I have right around a 200 average and can bowl rather quickly when by myself. I was looking for something to do this afternoon and called up my local lines and it was $2.79 a game + $4 shoes (have my own so no biggie). The price is not great, but its not horrible either.

I called another locally bowling alley thats alot newer and has big screen tv's, nice leather seats to sit on, restaurant inside etc. I have never been there before. I asked him how much it was per game and he told me $5.25 per game before 6 with $5 shoes (wow, $5+ a game to bowl). I asked how much it was at night to bowl a game and he informed me depending on the night it was $8-13 per game per person plus shoe rental. Who in their mind pays $13 a game to bowl?

that has to be a biggest rip off price for bowling ever

I used to be a 200 average bowler, gave it up a few years back, because, well as some of you guys know, the game has become ridiculous with the grooved oil patterns, the equiptment changes that allow a 170 average talent to become a 200 talent, and the out of control prices (electricity prices is to blame)
Nutmeg Bowl in Fairfield charges like $5.50 a line, and I think around $15 rental per hour.

i remember around 10 years ago when i was in my young teens our locally bowling alley had beat the clock summer prices. it would be like .55 cents a game from 10-11, .65 cents a game from 11-12 and so on. my friends and I would spend all day there and bowl around 30 games and have a bill under $20

thats pretty solid world number one, i think bowling is a great time with friends. Get a couple pitchers of beer and just have at it. Use to love cosmic bowling with the dark atmosphere, strobe lights and what not. but they dont really offer it around here. They do have all you can bowl thursday-sunday for $6 a person from 9pm-1am. Only problem is you get the 13-14 yr old crowd that try to cram 20+ people into a lane to hangout and the over flow is everywhere

Cosmic bowling is called 'moonlight bowling' here.
I miss the days when I bowled on Wednesday nights in the Union County Majors, Johnny Petraglia out of Manasquan NJ and Parker Bohn III out of Freehold used to bowl in that league, took each and everyone of us to school in league play, then proceeded to school us at 1AM after league play in 'pots'.

used to really enjoy it as well, and bowled on leagues...always had around a 180 avg....was never a big STRIKE bowler, but rarely had open frames, so was very consistant, but they've just about priced themselves out...i cant believe its 5.00/game where some of u guys are......if we cant rent the lane by the hour, i dont go anymore

Definately not an avid bowler but there is an older alley my friends and I will hit up a few times over the summer. They have some good specials during the week. I think Tuesday is 1 cent per pin you knock down plus $3 for shoes.

billhill I gave it up 2 years ago for exactly the same reasons except for the prices which has pretty much stayed the same. There are a bunch of guys in Green Bay averaging over 230 yet can never win a penny in a scratch tourney against other 210 average guys from other towns. Have not missed it one bit especially since I bowled Wednesdays and would miss out on all the college halftime bets in the winter.

My father averaged 180+ in the 50's and 60's on impossible conditions, when 180 then meant 210 now.
My best season was 202 across 102 game season, today's kids average 200, but they have 175 talent, but what's sad is they think they are actually pro, and strut around like they are.
Put these kids on a viper oil pattern, and they couldn't even get to the pocket, and lucky to score 170.

Yeah, what's up with that? How do they expect you to drink, eat, and bowl, without smoking,

I used to be a very competitive bowler. I used to hate it when I'd to go the bowling alley to practice, get there and there'd be all those flashing lights, and lasers. Now it'd be no problem for me, as I just be going to have fun. But boy did that bother me, disco at the bowling alley wtf.....
