supposedly, the Twins have a stud catcher they can never use and they can throw back a decent SP.

but I think they might want to sign Lee to some extension first. Not like them to throw away talent for a 1 season rental

thing is, this catcher of the twins system, is only hitting .203 w/a couple of hr's.

they have to make him sign an extension though.
Cliff Lee is not signing any extensions....he's gonna be the most coveted free agent pitcher on the market. Yankees would be about the only team willing to offer up the money on an ext.

Report: Twins offer two prospects for Lee

http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp...11981250&vkey=notebook_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb

Hicks, a 20-year-old outfielder, was the No. 14 overall pick in 2008 and has posted a .792 on-base-plus-slugging percentage in three seasons in Rookie and Class A ball. Ramos, 22, has hit just .208 with Triple-A Rochester this season, but he batted .317 in 2009 between Rookie and Double-A ball.

The Twins supposedly offered Hicks and Ramos yesterday. The media has been pumping the hell out of Ramos, but Hicks would be the big get in the deal. Hicks is the #9 rated minor league prospect in all of baseball, whereas Ramos is something like #58. Ramos is being compared to another catching prospect the M's already have in their system, Adam Moore, who is a decent prospect but nothing to get too excited over.

Having said all that, I read today that the M's and Twins aren't close on anything. This is yet another rumor, but some people are speculating the M's want more than Hicks and Ramos -- maybe an extra piece like Kyle Gibson thrown in.

Alonso from the Reds is a possibility as well, but the Reds would have to throw in at least one other player for the M's to do it. And I guess today Gammons is saying that he's hearing there's a possible 3-way deal that could happen with BJ Upton, Cliff Lee, and another team.

Who the hell knows? I'm sure there will be 37 more trade possibilites talked about in the next 3 days.

no i obviously understand the point, it makes them a much better team and they should make a deep run at the championship with him. but do you really think its worth giving up two of you best prospects, just to get a player for half a season (even if its cliff lee). if they could get him to sign some kind of an extension i think they should throw everything they have at seattle, but not sure if this is the best situation

In another 'who the hell knows' twist, this site, which is a good blog for M's news, says the Twins never offered Hicks and Ramos. They say the M's simply asked for those guys in a deal for Lee, but the Twins didn't seem too happy with that deal. It's fun to hear all the rumors, but the vast majority of them end up being completely, or at least partly, false:
