In August, I could be out there as many as 3 times for a variety of different tourneys.

I was looking at flights. Generally I fly out first flight in the morning, it is a 4hr flight, so i get there bright an early around 10am.

The problem is, losing 3 hours on the flight back sucks. I see some flights available at 12am and 1.45am, so in reality, i would be leaving at 3-4am EST. I figure, hell, I generally am heading to bed between the hours of 12am-2am in Vegas, so why not catch a red eye, sleep on the flight home, get home at 7am and have the whole day not wasted!

I think I found myself a new plan. May not work for most, but works great if you don't like being tied up at airports/air all day.

I've taken numerous red-eyes back from Vegas and it always ends up being the same story for me, the next day is shot for me.I usually am able to sleep for about 90 mins on the way home but it doesn't help that much
.Now I try and leave Vegas somewhere in the 3-6pm time frame

I fly 100,000 + miles a year and not a chance in hell will you get me on a red-eye. They are terrible.

I've done 3 red-eyes in the last 15 years of flying all the time.

#1 - Son's #1 2nd birthday party and was told I HAD to be at a client meeting the day before. Only way to get back from LAX to Buffalo for a 2pm party was redeye.
#2 - Was at a training class in Portland and the wife went into Labor with son #2. Hopped that flight ASAP (post note - it was FALSE LABOR - #$%^&**(#).
#3 - Son #3 first birthday (not the party but actual day), and again had a meeting I HAD to be at for work.

yes, and I love them

get an extra day in Vegas and fly while you sleep. Just take something that tends to knock you out so that you know you're going to sleep

I like to depart at 6:00AM when heading out

Caught a 10 pm out of vegas back to atlanta. Was 5 am when I got out of the parking lot. The 2.5 hour drive back to upstate sc may have been the longest drive of my life. I was toast.

Can't sleep on the plane......especially when I'm excited on my way to vegas.

i've done the red eye a LOT (flight is almost 6 hours from hawaii)......and I leave hawaii at 10:30 pm.....then arrive in vegas around 6:30 am.....perfect for the sleep on plane guy.....for me it is horrible cause my first day in vegas I'm dragging

true. 4 hours is a killer for me. that is a direct flight, i generally like to break it up a bit with a layover
for me it is 4.5-5 hours by plane to the nearest casino airport.....why not just go the extra hour and hit up vegas

I feel like absolute dog shit the day after. Leaving at midnight vegas time = being awake at 3am east coast time. While I can and do sleep on just about every flight I take (love the free drinks up front ~ nice vodka tonic or bloody mary almost every time), flying overnight just does me in for some reason.

I lived in Belgium in the late 1980's and flew back and forth numerous times. Even then, much younger, my body had a hard time.

Platinum status on Delta certainly has its advantages (just missed Diamond last year by about 9k miles - shoulda made a mileage run), so yeah, I sit up front about 99% of the time I fly even though I'm paying coach fares, and while I can get to sleep not a big fan of it.

Keep in mind also, there is no red-eye direct back to Buffalo. Normal travel is WEST COAST-ATLANTA-BUFFALO or WEST COAST-DETROIT-BUFFALO, which means getting awake enough at 6am'ish or so to navigate the move from the plane to the next terminal i'm connecting at to get the flight to Buffalo - plus generally an hour or so wait time. It's the hour or so wait time until I can catch a few more zzzz's that sucks the most.
