That might be the only positive thing someone might say about Webb: Both teams got more than enough breaks and fucked up calls against them or in their favor, wouldn't call it one-sided officiating by Webb...just constantly bad (and that is not remotely close to describing his "work").if the idiot former COP known as dickhead howard webb would have called the game evenly both ways u wouldn't hear a word from me...
Just like Puyol and Iniesta needed to be sent off. That game was ugly as hell and the ref was the worst of it...card happy, never got the game under control and lots of fucked up calls.
De Jong only gets a yellow card for that kung-fu kick, WTF. Iniesta bodychecks van Bommel 5-6m away from the ball, committing a revenge foul, ref sees it, whistles the play dead and Iniesta doesn't even receive a yellow card...
Puyol wrestling down Robben while being the last defender, Robben fighting to score not going down and that wrestling move gets the 2nd defender the chance to get a foot in so that Casillas can make the save...Puyol not being sent off and to top all that, Robben sees a yellow card for complaining.
In the end he robs NED of a crystal clear corner kick, when Sneijders free kick bounces off a defender AND Casillas touching the ball and on the next play Spain scores the winner (not even getting into the non-called foul on Elia, which starts the attack that lead to the goal)...
That championship game was a disgrace to soccer, it's a shame that such a ref gets to officiate such a game.
NED was overly aggressive, played a real ugly game, tough to watch and were lucky to have only one guy sent off.
But watching the Spaniards play makes me puke, too, because of at least 4-5 Spaniards besieging the ref after every single foul and trying to talk him into shwing a fucking card...
Last thing I'll say: If you watch that wrestling move by Puyol vs Robben and the result (no whistle, no red card against Puyol, no real scoring opportunity for NED), just because Robben didn't want to go down despite contact, nobody should be surprised to see all the fucked up flopping and diving in soccer since obviously as long as you don't go down (and act), you don't get any fouls called. ^<<^
good point about the ref having to sprint to position himself correctly...in the europa league this past year they tried out having linesman on the end lines also...thus giving the linesman more availability to the ref and their side of the pitch...makes sense...you think if they had those endline refs in yesterday they might have caught the missed corner kick at the end of overtime?Soccer needs 3 or 4 refs on the field - not 1 plus a linesman.
There is no way the ref running (sprinting) 10-20 yards behind robben can see the foul. Thus the player has to fall down to have it called. If there was a ref in each penalty box plus one near midfield game would be called much much better.
1 ref is enough for 10 year olds. When you have world class sprinters playing, you can't have a 40 year old single ref calling things from 30 yards away.
There might be calls, where more refs would help making the right call, but that one was so blatantly obvious, it's still beyond me how someone could miss it...it's not like the ball graced someone and went out of bounds. The ball sliced to the right, until it hit the Spaniard and changed directions...it went off in a 45 degree angle, so that even Stevie Wonder should have noticed the ball changing directions hno:you think if they had those endline refs in yesterday they might have caught the missed corner kick at the end of overtime?

The NBA gets it (as crooked as the league is) - 99% of the action happens within 10 feet of the basket. Put one ref on each baseline.
