Kovalchuk will be in LA to meet with the Kings in person.
Does this mean a deal is in the works?

Los Angeles' style of play makes a much more sensible fit for Kovalchuk than going back to New Jersey. So is the surrounding cast, climate, and chance for a cup. Considering the Kings finished just 11 points from the best record in the west last year, his scoring/depth could be enough to put them over the top.

L.A. presently has $17m in cap space and his signing would eliminate needing to resign Frolov. On the other side, L.A. still has to worry about Drew Doughty and Jack Johnson being RFAs in 2011-12.

One shop has L.A. at 30/1 here locally. I might need to take a ride.

Yep I'm on may way out to do the same. I've only checked one shop and they had them at 15-1. If I can find 30-1 we have a deal.

I'm not sure but I think Ryan Smyths 6.5 mil will be off the books too. giving them more cap space. I'm pretty sure LA's GM wont be giving him a max deal. Drew will probably be expecting 7 mill and JMFJ will probably get a lot less than that.

Only if he's willing to agree to the King's terms. He wanted 10 years at 100 million and the Kings were somewhere around 60 million. Maybe he'll end up 70-75 million.

I wouldn't pay the money. He scores a lot of goals and not much else. Not much of a leader either.
