was just watching PTI, and he made a comment about who might be on the Mt. Rushmore of television, and that made me think it could be interesting to see who people would put there......Of course, it could be from any kind of contribution to television, including comedy, drama, directing, writing, news, etc.....and the basic criteria would include people who changed the landscape of television, or were pioneers, or contributed for extended periods of time and high levels....

I will start with my mt rushmore of

Lucille Ball
Bill Cosby
Aaron Spelling
Norman Lear

honorable mentions go to: Cronkite, Bob Barker, Carol Burnett, Carroll O'Connor and Andy Griffith

I know it might sound like I'm joking but I would really like to see Al Bundy(Ed O'Neill) on there.

he has as good a run on "Modern Family" as he did on "Married with Children" he might get there...very rare for actors to have (2) or more long running, HUGELY successful shows that they were the stars of.....

only a few come to mind, Bea Arthur, Carroll O'Connor, Larry Hagman, Andy Griffith, Lucille Ball, Jack Klugman, Buddy Ebsen, maybe some others , but those come to mind....

Ed Sullivan (the grand daddy of the variety shows)
Lucille Ball (no need to explain)
Mary Tyler Moore (advanced womens issues)
Philo Farnsworth (he invented the damn thing)

You can argue Oprah, Reiner (producer/director) Johnny Carson, whole slew of people............

Married with Children was monumental because that show changed the 'goody two shoes' approach to sit-coms.
Before the dysfunctional Bundy's, all sit-com families were American Cheese on Wonder Bread with mayo, who's biggest problems were who is going to go to the prom with Junior or poor Beaver has a zit.

O'Neil also had, but turned down the role of Popeye in the French Connection.

that is true.....Married with Children was just the antithesis of Family Matters, Family Ties, The Cosby Show, Mr . Belvedere, Full House, The Hogans, Growing Pains, and many others
