I hurt my back some time in May. I don't even know how i hurt it. It just started bothering me one day when i was at the driving range with my gf's little boy. I was teeing up balls for him while he hit them and the next thing I knew i could hardly stand up.

I stopped exercising with weights for a couple of weeks and just did cardio hoping it was a pulled muscle and would stop.

If i do anything like unloading a truck, pressure washing, etc. it literally hurts so bad i have to lie down.

I have always been one of those people that heard people talking about back pain and I was like " yeah quit being a puss" .

My dad stopped by my house and I was loading an atv that does not run onto a trailor to take it to be repaired. He started helping me and I told him we had to stop so I could lie down. I felt like a lazy turd. I didn't want to tell him I'd been having back problems but there was no hiding it.

I have a feeling its serious because I'm starting to have some tingling in my leg and from what i've read online that isn't good news.

I guess i'm gonna have to go to the doctor about it as much as i hate to.

Anyway I guess I can now say I feel for folks that have dealt with back pain. It is a bitch.

Sorry to hear of your suffering $tinky !

I get it from time to time also.

It usually gets better within a few weeks......but it always comes back as you continue to age.

This makes me respect any pro athlete over 40....

This is probably stupid but I thought a neurologist was like a brain Dr.? I guess they do the spine thing too huh? Bas was it you that had back problems or am I thinking of Bellyputter?

I can't imagine if I had a job where you had to exert yourself physically or do manual labor right now. I guess I'd have to quit. I've always been a hard worker and never shied away from sweating my ass off all day long, but this has put a hault to all that.

Once you said that you have pain running down the back of your Legs. That's where the Neurologist comes in.

Not sure about Bellyputter, but Yes I had a very bad Back problem at one time. Still have some...but Nothing like it use to be.

Good chance you have Sciatica, which is sciatic nerve problems.

The term "sciatica" indicates that the sciatic nerve, which travels from the lower back through the buttocks and into the leg, is thought to be the cause of the pain in this condition. True sciatica is a condition that occurs when a herniated lumbar disc compresses one of the contributing roots of the sciatic nerve.

Stinky, I've had issues for two years now. Lower back pain in the L5 that caused much pain down my cyatic nerve in my right leg. So much pain I walked with a limp and had to lay down for hours at a time. Tried the physical therapy and all that crap and it didn't work.

Next step is to get an MRI (if doctor says so) and to go see a neurosurgeon. The neurosurgeon will read your MRI and diagnose the problem and tell you if you need surgery or not. Surgery is the last option but for me it was the only option. Doctor performed a 45-minute discectomy on me and was back in the gym in 6 weeks. Not going to lie, post surgery for a week or so was horrible. After that though it was fine.

Pain came back in my lower back at the L3 about 6 months later. Doc said no surgery for this one so I'm going to physical therapy, steroid injections and pain meds. All these are helping but doc says the pain may never go away.

A few tips:
Strengthen your core. If you're a fat guy then it's time to put down the fork.
Take your time and relax. No more throwing shit around and digging fence posts.
Use your legs to bend over and pick up items on the ground.
Trust your body. You're not a young guy anymore. Your body will tell you what's wrong.
Heat, ice, heat, ice.
Work in your physical therapy. Make it work.

PM me if you want more details or have questions. It's been a long drawn out nightmare.

Can a mod delete the double post please? That's the new V bulletin acting up. Oh, and it's sciatic not cyatic. My fault. Either way, it sucks ass.

Down the legs doesn't sound good. I get stiff as Hell in the lower back on occasion....as recently as two weeks ago....where I'd have a hard time doing anything tougher than driving. Forget about climbing ladders or anything close to physical labor.

About 3 months ago I had a month-long stretch where it took me about 10 minutes to get out of a chair and walk out of the room I was in. I couldn't stand up straight either.

Not saying this wasn't good for You....as everyone is different.

But I would go to a Neurologist first, before I would see a neurosurgeon !

The answer as to Why, is simple.
A Neurologist does Not Believe in Surgery , they will try Everything under the Sun to Help you before you go under the Knife.

That said, a neurosurgeon is not going to perform surgery if they don't need to. A neurosurgeon is a docter that reads your MRI, diagnoses the issue and maps out a plan for a way ahead for you. It's really up to your primary care provider who they send you to. I was at the point where surgery was the only option left.

All That's Been Said Is Very True

Having said that you can use or not the following. As most of yo know I'm ancient (77), and have had severe back pain for over 35 yrs. I've had ALL the tests, seen the Dr's etc., but until last Oct. NEVER any relief. While in the hospital w/my HA a Dr. said "have you ever tried this"? This was a simple patch applied to the affected area. In my case right above the hip bone mid back, on the right side. started using them immediately, @ 1st one a day, then every 2 days, etc. Now it's maybe once a month. A friggen miracle to me the firstpain free time in yrs. You can take it for what it's worth, but it has worked for me. It's called "Lidoderm" they're patches by ENDO, not cheap, about $200 for 30 day supply. But now one patch lasts for more than 3 wks on avg.! I know most of you will pooh pooh this, fine, but all I can relate to you is my experience. PM me if you want to. BOL to all my pals @ RX!!:toast:

I just started having some back-pain a few weeks ago. I'm guessing I tweaked something at the gym.

I felt like a little bitch the first day. It has steadily improved though by resting and stretching.

look like a bigger puss saying you did it while teeing off! lol

At least make up a good story. lol

In all seriousness, back problems are a bitch. I have a siactia nerve that is hell, i have lost about 30lbs and that has helped a ton.

Hope it gets better
