I have a good friend of mine up there for the weekend.I told him that I would try to find him some great places to eat at.I am not talking about expensive places ,more like local (hole in the wall) type places with food that is delicious.Like sandwich shops, burger joints, pizza places, wings, stuff like that.TIA

The Ironbound section of Newark has one of the largest Portuguese populations in the States. There are plenty of good eats there.

Exactly I grew up 10 mins away from Newark in Cranford NJ.
Ironbound like Carl said, or you can go to Harrison for some nice European restaurants as well.
Or for 2 bucks, hop a PATH train and you can be in the city in 12 minutes.

I guess he probably won't have too hard of a time finding something.I'm sure they have tons of great places to eat up there.Just checking to see if there was one of those stand alone type places.

So the Ironbound section is the place to go.

If you don't stop at a Jimmy Buff's Italian hot dogs and sausage, your going to miss out on a great local treat. There's one on Route 22 in Scotch Plains. Don't miss out on Joe's Pizza on the corner of Millburn Ave. and Springfield Ave. You can also get an Italian hot dog there also.

I looked at those links and the Ironbound section does look like a great place to visit. My friend decided to return today so unfortunately he didn't get a chance to check it out but thanks for all the great suggestions. At least I know where to go if I'm ever up there.Cheers
