1) Who was the only person Hawkeye ever saluted properly during the entire series run?

2) What did the 'BJ' in BJ Hunnicutt stand for?

Hawkeye tried to figure out BJ's real name, and i dont think he ever found out....seems no one knew, leading to beleive that was his real name.......

I dont remember who Hawkeye saluted.......

my guess would be someone who died, but no clue....maybe when Colonel Blake's chopper went down?

BJ was named for his mom Bea and his dad Jay.

Hawkeye saluted properly Radar from the operating room (Radar was on the other side of the door looking through the window) in Radar's very last episode.

I read that the scene when Colonel Blake's chopper went down , that only a few people on set knew what was going to happen .
The writers and directors kept it a secret because they wanted a honest reaction from the cast ........Radar ( who told everyone ) was told between scenes what to say .
It went on to say that even though everyone knew it did not happen, some of the cast cried .

i think i have seen every episode of mash multiple times, normally takes about 30 seconds into an episode to know which one it is. never gotten around to seeing the movie, but i heard its alot different from the tv show, eventhough it has the same character names for the most part

The movie was a lot 'darker'

The MASH song lyrics

Through early morning fog I see
visions of the things to be
the pains that are withheld for me
I realize and I can see...
[REFRAIN]:
that suicide is painless
it brings on many changes
and I can take or leave it if I please.
I try to find a way to make
all our little joys relate
without that ever-present hate
but now I know that it's too late, and...
[REFRAIN]
The game of life is hard to play
I'm gonna lose it anyway
The losing card I'll someday lay
so this is all I have to say.
[REFRAIN]
The only way to win is cheat
And lay it down before I'm beat
and to another give my seat
for that's the only painless feat.
[REFRAIN]
The sword of time will pierce our skins
It doesn't hurt when it begins
But as it works its way on in
The pain grows stronger...watch it grin, but...
[REFRAIN]
A brave man once requested me
to answer questions that are key
is it to be or not to be
and I replied 'oh why ask me?'
[REFRAIN]
'Cause suicide is painless
it brings on many changes
and I can take or leave it if I please.
...and you can do the same thing if you please.

i always got a kick out of how characters were used multiple times as different people, col. p0tter was a looney col. by a different name before he ended up taking over for blake. Alot of the korean actors played multiple roles. In one episode they might be north korean and then a yr or 2 down the line, play an old friend visiting from the states

MASH was as good as it gets...All in The Family was a close second....Seinfeld was third.....

Barney Miller honorable mention along with Taxi and Sanford&Son....

They just make sitcoms like these anymore....

McClean Stevenson (Blake) was envious of taking a back seat to Alda (Hawkeye)
Stevenson wanted equal billing as Alda, and Alan Alda money, which CBS wouldn't give, so he left in what could be called a hissy fit.

Wayne Rogers story was basicly the same as Stevenson, was jealous of Alda.

What those two did not realize that Jamie Farr and Loretta Swit did was Alda was so much more than Hawkeye to that show, he directed behind the scenes and consulted on writing also.

Stevenson and Rogers career went into the toilet after they left.
(Would not be surprised if the two were blackballed -CBS had major clout back then)

I stand corrected, putting aside all the mock salutes Hawkeye gave, he did indeed also slaute ****** in a military fashion, I almost forgot that one, the Radar salute is famous.
