I would guess about half of us have. I collected once when I was 21. I had to fight the denial, but I eventually won in a hearing. I collected 13 weeks. :drink:did a lot of this during that time

BB, I thought the cake business was going relatively well for you?? If not, hope things turn around soon. As for me I haven't had to collect any benefits before...hopefully won't have to. Every job we land now is blessing...used to have business out the ass 7 days a week...now we are lucky to have 5 days worth of work and rarely if ever get to schedule more than a week ahead.

Yep twice in my lifetime and didn't enjoy it. It wasn't enough to sustain. Pulled many odd jobs and depleted my 401k to stay afloat.

I did for a few months after I left the military in 1988. I took a job that paid less than $8 an hour just to get off of it. Of course I wasn't married and didn't have any kids.

LOL.

I've also heard of business owners wishing they could fire themselves so they could collect as well, lol.

At my old job, we had to lay some people off, some were happy/didn't mind, some were upset of course- as now they had to find new jobs, but the people who were even more upset were the ones who were working 2 fulltime jobs already! They knew they couldn't collect anything.

Nope! I was fortunate enough to be a public servant my entire career and gained so much seniority over the years, when there were layoffs, which was rare, I was well protected.

I hear you here. I got laid off in Feb, and my state can't pass a budget so until they do 75% of the jobs are on stand still. I don't know about the whole Union idea nowadays......

No, You could never qualify for it back in my day, get a job or starve...I'd love to take it and would have no qualms about taking it for 2years + if I ever got it.

In 2004 after deductions it was only $333 for two weeks, for me

Extremely stupid that I accepted a job after only one check

agree especially after you got trip 3's as a paycheck...you could have bought into the 2-5 NL game

Carton of Old Gold, case of Natural Ice and 56 $5 scratchoff lottery tickets would have been the best choice, Dante. If not, why is that exactly how everyone else spends their gov'ment check?

Knew a guy that had moved his concrete business here from Buffalo. He claimed that he kept the business in his wifes name so every winter up there he would lay himself off and go on unemployment. Then it was off to Florida for the winter.
