You can make some decent coin using these things. Not as good as it once was, but airline tickets, gift certificates, cash vouchers, etc.....adds up.

I have just about enough on my miles account to get me a $1000 credit for travel.

All of this for normal purchases for my business. Great thing is, now my supplier of my cheese is accepting credit card now! :dancefool

Yes, in fact, I attact these with the same vigor as offshore bonuses.

But, as you stated, not nearly as lucrative with the massive credit crunches.........NOT NEARLY AS GOOD(and it sucks).

I went to office depot today, bought some toner for $60. Could pay $60 cash and get nothing, or use my rewards business card and get 300 points.
Even if they give 5% back, that means you lost 95%, hardly seems like making anything to me

Ive been meaning to set something up...I have it so all my bills get paid automatically though my checking account, gonna change it so they all go to my credit cards and then link the credit cards to get paid by the checking. Seems confusing but if its all automatic I make a little more in cash back.

Never understood when people paid directly from Bank account or used a debit card.

And how much would have have if you neither spent cash, nor charged?

Not the point obviously. The point is you need to spend money to survive everyday. You might as well get something back from it by using a CC and paying it off every month. Its +EV.

Wildcat, That depends on how close to EV all your purchases are. The more stuff a person buys, the more likely it is they would have ended up valuing the cash more than the stuff. If these programs didn't encourage people to buy more than they otherwise would, they wouldn't offer them. So to maximize value, expected or otherwise, it can be a big help to not approach buying stuff as an asset

I have Visa to mail me Target gift cards a few times a year. All I see it as is that they're profits they make off me losing my money to stores and shit is a lot more than $25 every two or three months

My debit card has rewards too. But my biz credit card has a higher % pay back.

Run the debit as credit and you may get rewards, depends on the bank

I pay for everything with my chase rewards visa card bills all the way down to gas and groceries.... statement comes in I pay the entire thing.. been doing that for 2 yrs...have already cashed in about 450$ in free giftcards and cash from points and double points not paying a single cent of interest... it is the very sharp thing to do

THE KEY IS IF you pay your balances off each month like clockwork. if you can not do that don't bother doing this

exactly - this is key to pay off your balances each month and don't buy stuff you don't need. I have to buy gas and groceries every week, why not get 5% cash back on it?
ALso have a rewards card from citibank that pays a small amount for putting miles on your car. Send in your receipts when you get work done on your car and you will be credited for the miles driven and get cash back towards repair bills.

I have an 800+ credit score, no delinquencies. I heard I could get an even better credit score if I had revolving credit and I wanted to get some rewards like you guys mention. I applied for a credit card and was denied because I don't have enough charge accounts.

:think2:

Anyone know a credit company who will give me a credit card?

sounds absurd, im sure if you apply here and there at stands that exist in shopping malls and such that you will be able to find a card. also are there not some cards where you can pay in advance, so there is no risk to the card company, this way you could still use the card.
