New York Mets ML +107 (100 Units) ***PLAY OF THE MONTH***

The New York Mets are struggling big time right now and have lost four straight games. They are 1-7 since the All-Star Break but their only win came when Johan Santana was on the mound in a 4-3 extra innings win in San Francisco last weekend. It's not a secret that Santan has struggled at times this year and the team is only 10-10 in his 20 starts in 2010 (when was the last time that happened with the Mets ace?). Having said that, Santana has been untouchable in his last three starts and the Mets are 3-0 in those starts. He has allowed 16 hits in 24.0 innings pitched with an ERA of 0.38 and a WHIP of 0.96. The only pitcher who has been better or even close to Santana in that three game span is Vincent Padilla of the Dodgers, who is ironically on the mound tonight. So what the Mets really need to do is hit the ball tonight. They are batting only .204 in their last 10 games (where they are 2-8 in those games) but their success has come against right handed pitchers. Should this game go to extra innings or come down to the bullpens, the Mets (much like their win against the Giants last time Santana pitched) have the advantage with a 3.51 ERA (bullpen) in the last 10 games. Santana leads the Mets to another win.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are an outstanding home team and it's probably not wise to go against them too many times at home. The boys in Blue have now won two straight games but they came out of the All-Star Break with six straight losses and this is a good time to go against them. They won last night's game 2-0 in the opener of this series but had a huge edge in the pitching matchup. Vincent Padilla is on the mound for the Dodgers tonight and not many guys in the Major Leagues have been better than him over his last three starts. Having said that the Dodgers bullpen is very iffy, they have an ERA of 5.10 in their last 10 games and they blew one of his last three starts which is why the Dodgers are 2-1 in the last three games Padilla has started. In his last three starts he has an ERA of 0.87 and a WHIP of 0.73 and the Dodgers have provided him with 6.0 runs of support per game in those starts. The Dodgers are batting only .241 in their last 10 games, they are batting only .253 versus left handed pitchers this season and they have always struggled against Santana who should go deep in this game. Padilla has been great this season but the bottom line is that the Dodgers don't really show up for him as they are 4-6 in his last 10 starts and it's been a problem for them all year now. I don't see that changing tonight.

We have a great pitching matchup tonight on paper but Johan Santana, like he always does, will carry this team to a win. Santana is 3-0 lifetime against the Dodgers in three starts with an ERA of 0.44, a WHIP of only 1.02 and the Dodgers have hit only .169 against him in those three starts where he has allowed only 1 ER in 20.2 innings of work. UNREAL! Padilla has also been great against the Mets going 10-3 against them in his career with a 3.54 ERA, a WHIP of 1.18 and the Mets have hit only .239 against him. So by now it's obvious this game is probably going to come down to the bullpens and again the Mets have a big advantage with a bullpen ERA of of 3.51 in their last 10 games compared to 5.10 for the Dodgers bullpen in the last 10 games. You won't find many supporting stats or trends that go in favor of the Mets in this game but they have played well on Friday nights for some reason and they are 8-3 in Santana's last 11 starts versus NL West opponents. The Dodgers are 1-5 in their last six games played on a Friday night, they are only 6-14 in their last 20 games versus NL East opponents and they have really struggled since the All-Star Break. CB Buckner is behind home plate tonight and he seems to favor the road teams as the road team is 6-1 in Buckner's last seven games behind home plate. I'm going with Santana and the Mets.

Trend of the Game: The Road Team is 6-1 in CB Buckner's last seven games behind home plate.

NY Mets 6, LA Dodgers 3
