Going to Vegas and booking a hotel and flight for 4 people. Any advice on places to stay on the strip or deals? We plan on going in late December and none of us have ever been there before? If anyone has any good advice thanks for the help

Online is the best source to be alert of "Deals". December is pretty busy due to the National Finals Rodeo and you might not find the best deals possible but also if you are looking closer to New Years Eve, the rates might not be what you'd expect. However, with the way the economy's been and looks to be going in the dumper even more after this summers over, you might have a window here to book something at a nice rate at about anywhere on the strip you so please.

If money is no factor, providing you'll get a lower rate than normal anyways, then I would suggest staying at Bellagio or Mirage. On the cheaper side, can't lose with the Tropicana. Tropicana has excellent rooms a little on the older side but if you all go in on a suite you won't be disapointed. You'll have a great time regardless where you stay. Afterall, when you're here you don't stay in your room. So that's another thing you've got to consider...location. Where do you intend to spend alot of time? Have yourself a great time......I know you will.

That's my own site. Pretty much everything in there is aimed at first-timers. The biggest question you have to decide is what is the main point of your trip. Is it partying or gambling? The Strip is for partiers, Downtown is for gamblers.

Please do not post links to your website on The Rx.com.

Thank you, wilheim

My advice would be to book the flight as soon as possible. Try southwest.com first and do your best to avoid touching the weekend on your flights. Try to head there on Wednesday or Thursday... and try to take a return flight on Monday morning. If you have to take an extra vacation day or day off work it's worth it. You'll save anywhere between $70-$150 per person by avoiding a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday flight. Let's say you planned on flying home Sunday morning... I have no idea how much $ you make, but let's say after taxes you make $80 per day (assuming you don't have paid vacation days; if you do then all the better). Take an extra vacation day & call off work Monday. You can book a cheap hotel for like $35-$40 on Sunday night (split 4 ways) at somewhere like the Stratosphere, Riviera, Imperial Palace, or downtown... and you'll save about $70-$100 by flying out Monday morning instead of Sunday morning. So basically you added an extra day to your vacation for free, or if you get paid vacation days you might have even saved money and added a day to your vacation. Depending on your schedule maybe some of the things I mentioned aren't possible, but I hope this helps. Book the flight soon is my #1 bit of advice.

I'd look for a flight on Southwest, I'd fly in on whatever day you choose, and i'd fly out on sunday. Sunday is actually a slower day at the Las Vegas airport. When I go out I usually stay at the Excalibur, pretty cheap hotel rooms and they're nice. I mean how much time are you really going to spend in your hotel room??? As long as you know it's clean thats all that really matters. Where you really want to go makes a difference. If you want to stay downtown than i'm not sure. But if you want to be on the strip then the Excalibur is a good choice. Don't stay downtown just because the room is cheaper, you'll end up spending more in cab fee's going to the strip than you would of for the room on the strip.

PS: alot of comps are bullshit these days so i'd say try to find the best price on the hotel room and the use the comps for food.

Sorry but I've been traveling to and from Las Vegas for at least the last 30 years and I've lived here in Las Vegas for the last 9 years. Anyone that says that Sunday is actually a slower day at the Las Vegas airport is either smoking some great stuff or is living in a total fantasy world. Sunday is a fantastic day to get a free bump because a lot of the planes are overbooked but slow ?

A lot of it depends on why you are going to Vegas in the first place. If you're there for entertainment purposes, the strip is for you. If you're going there to gamble on sports, the best lines are off the strip at Stations casinos.

Southwest Vacations is going to have some deal coming out on July 30. It might be one of the 2-for-1 deals they put out once or twice a year.

Best lines ? It's news to me. Their vig is the same and all the lines are the same so what's the advantage if every single Casino has exactly the same line. The best lines are where there are plenty of variance in numbers, not just 1 number ! If you are talking about Video poker etc. then no doubt stay away from the strip. There are no 100 payback machines on the strip ! I live here so I visit every single sportsbook in town and if you're talking futures, Stations Casinos are horrible ! Believe it or not there are several strip Casinos that are my favorite place to go to get good future wagers.

You have lived in Vegas for 9+ years and still haven't figured out which book(s) have the highest R.O.I. when they take a stance against Pinnacle's no-vig price?

What does that BS have to do with Las Vegas Sports wagering ? If the vig is the same and they are,,,, The only thing that matters is getting the best line. If only one line is available, you pretty much are not going to have much for obtions.
ROI and Pinny lines means nothing to me ! Who cares about Pinny vig etc. here in the USA anymore ? Stations Casinos is not where most of the big time gamblers here in Las Vegas lay their action at.
