I went into the ER on Friday with dizziness, a burst blood vessel in my eye and numbness in my left hand and foot. Thought maybe I suddenly had high blood pressure or maybe I'd had a TIA (small stroke). They did an ECG, blood work and a CT scan. The first two came out okay, but the CT was bad news.

It turns out I have four brain tumours. FOUR! Wtf?

The ER doc thinks they look benign and I go see a neurosurgeon on Tuesday.

I've never been so scared in my life.

Does anyone here have any really positive stories they can share with me about friends or family that went through this and came out okay? I just graduated from a PSW programme (like your CNA) and am working on becoming a full-fledged nurse. I just turned 40 last month. I can't believe this is happening now.

Ironically, I did a clinical at a cancer hospice in May/June of this year. At least I know where I can go for *exceptional* care if it comes to that.

The Rx has always been a place for great support for anyone in this community who needs it ... I guess that's why I'm posting this here. I just want to curl up into a ball and hide under my bed right now, pretend this isn't happening.

Additionally, I want to say....

To all of you here that I've met, that I've befriended over the years, at the Bash(es), how blessed I have been to know you, to have your friendships. It's so easy to take people for granted and if I have I am sorry, and know that all of that changes now.

To the staff and management: I loved working here, have looong regretted leaving. It was so much fun, you were all so great to me! I hope hope hope I can be at the Bash next year!!!

(A special hug and "i love you" to quantumleap....I wish we were neighbours!! And good luck in your trading in case I have to hang it up for a while. Keep me informed!)

my prayers are with you X

I can honestly say that we all know somebody who beat cancer that wasn't supposed to, and your ER doctor said they look benign, that's a small bit of good news to begin with.

Human nature is to assume the worse, don't let the worry kill you. Stay strong (I believe you are), do what you must do to beat it. Most people do nowadays.

One of our friends has a daughter who had such a tumor maybe 15 years ago now. The thing was growing incredibly fast and the news was not optimistic. Anyhow, she had emergency surgery, followed by treatment, and 15 years later we don't even think about it anymore.

PS: stay busy until Tuesday, after that I trust you'll be much more relaxed

Symptoms were sudden. Woke up with them on Friday morning. Since then, I've had head rushes every few minutes and a ringing in my left ear for a couple of hours after I wake up. Very tired, too. Tho it's hard at this point to discern what is a symptom and what is just anxiety.

Wow, xpanda. Life is fragile. I work in claims, and had a claim recently where a motorhome rolled over. The two grandparents just got bruises, but both of their grandkids were killed instantly. It was devastating to talk to the lady and hear her pain firsthand. I guess tomorrow isn't promised to any of us. We are all terminal.....this ship is going down and none of us is getting out alive.

Don't panic. It's out of your control. I wish you the best and hope this gets taken care of without any problems.

Hope things go your way.

Maybe find a message board of cancer survivors to help you through this but hopefully and I am thinking things are going to be O.K.

Attitude is half the battle.

Xpanda - I know how scary this must be from experience..

When I was 42 I had a cyst/tumor removed from my right nasal cavity, that according to my surgeon was the size of a small lime. Anyway I had to wait a full two weeks for results of my biopsy of the tumor to come back from their lab. As a Vietnam Vet I get full medical care at The VA Medical facilities anywhere in the US for free but things like biopsies may take a little longer than at a self contained hospital.

Anyway, I remember standing there as the surgeon (two weeks later) pulled up my results on her computer. Yes she was a female Nose, Ear and Throat surgeon who worked for the VA and a real sharp cookie in her own right. A minute or so that seemed like forever went by and she looked up at me and send one word "Benign" which I have to tell you was better than being told I won the lottery for millions.

She then did a quick visual exam and laughed that you could drive a truck through my now totally clear nasal passage which for a long time was totally blocked so bad i could only sleep lying on my left side in order to breath.

I pray that you hear that same word when your results are revealed to you and actually feel confident you will as four tumors most likely should have manifested more serious symptoms before now in my untrained opinion if they were not benign. The key symptom of serious migraine like headaches is apparently not present which is a very good sign with inter cranial tumors.

Try to think positive until you see the neurosurgeon and don't be alarmed if he wants to do a biopsy or EEG (MRI or CT Scan) as they are routine in cases like this..I am not a doctor so I will leave it at that but I do know that positive thinking is important.

I know it is easy for me to say not to worry but do your best to relax and think you are going to have a positive outcome on Tuesday...

I know there will be many Rxers who will remember you in their prayers..

Sincerest hope that you will be well very soon, wil..

Many times having something strange happen healthwise which leads to more testing turns out to be a blessing in disguise.

What happened was probably meant to be so they could find what never would have been found if you didn't experience the other signs & symptoms.

Try not to worry Xpanda, odds are they are benign just as the doctor said they look to be and they will get them out and you'll be healthier than ever before you know it!

X, I love you too. You know how special you are to me as a friend.

Lots of good advice in this thread. Heavy on the "benign" part. I hope you find out real soon about everything and that you get fixed up and ready to roll after it's all over.

Keep us informed on how things are going! Don't be a stranger!

Sorry to hear Xpanda, some thing similar happened to my niece a few years ago,she was 15 or 16 at the time and was having problems similar to yours. They found a tumor and we all thought the worst. As it turned out it was benign and she had it removed. She goes back every few months for an MRI and so far so good everything as come back ok.

Keep us all updated on your situation, we will keep you in our prayers
